I read this and the H&H article and they both seem pretty vague to me - perhaps I have missed something, but some info about the symptoms etc would have been interesting? They just mention coughing.
I can't see that this would just be restricted to greyhounds surely? If it is transmittable to dogs then could it only affect a certain breed?
No, I believe Strep zoo to be a similar type of infection to strangles, and transmissable to horses. The people whose horses initially came down with a strangles lookalike had their horses swabbed and it came back negative
Our vets didn't seem overly bothered and although I'm a very reasonable and sensible person who would have happily complied with any unofficial quarantine instructions, I was never asked to do anything and the 'S' word was never mentioned.
No it's not. Streptococcus zooepidemicus is an upper respiratory infection like a cold in humans. I had a horse with it some years ago and 3 days abs cleared it. Strangles is streptococcus equi. This is an American article but very informative: http://www.umext.maine.edu/onlinepubs/htmpubs/1009.htm
