After a horrible incident today I now have to spend the next 20 hours waiting to see if horse has stress fracture/s. Anyone have any experience of these?

Thanks.

Sorry to hear that you have had an incident and I hope you are ok?

Yes I have had an experience last year with my TB.

Found him in his field shelter, on a Saturday morning, unable to move and the electric fencing partially demolished, with a broken plastic post. The post had stabbed him on the outside, just above his hock.

Vet was concerned there was a stress fracture, owing to the inflamation, which was assumed to come up very quickly after the incident.

I had to sedate him and he was cross tied for 3 days.

The Vet that attended and my usual Vet were very concerned, as they had seen recent horror stories, where the horse was assumed to be ok and turned back out

The decision was made to wait for the inflamation to reduce and then Xray on the Monday.

My usual Vet came on the Monday and after examination, she decided to see him walked up and gave him the all clear.

I had 3 days of worry, but luckily it ended up happily.

I really hope yours does.

I'm fine - shaken up and incredibly stiff and I'm hoping horse is just going to be feeling the same.

He bucked me off on a hack and then proceeded to head at flat out gallop onto a dual carriageway which he galloped along for about a mile - little sod is very lucky to be alive and it could have been so so much worse for which I am incredibly grateful.

Vet came out as soon as we got horse home, and he has been given anti-inflamm. and pain jabs so now have to wait until 4 o'clock tomorrow to walk him out and see how he is

Glad your horse was okay, poor thing - how did you manage with him being cross-tied for 3 days? Was he permanently sedated?

OMG I am so glad you are ok, it must have been such an awful experience, never to be repeated!

He was such a good boy and I could not have faulted him. At first he was on 3ml of Sedalin twice a day for the first day and then 5ml twice a day for the other two days .... I then found out that 5ml should have floored him ..... apparently. He is a big TB though!

The field shelter is open fronted and all that kept him in, was a wooden slip rail, covered with rugs so that he could not push his legs out. I am still amazed at how well he coped, but Motor was tucked up in the field shelter next to him and they can see each other most of the time ..... he got more stressed when Motor wandered off when I was there, as he was so suspicious, but would come back when I went.

Please let us know how your horse gets on?

Oh bless him, what a good boy! Makes life so much easier when they don't mind what you do to them doesn't it?

My boy is rubbish with the vet which didn't make it easy for vet to check for concussion etc..

Will do, fingers crossed I can report back tomorrow that all is fine. Thanks for your help
