Anyone come across a horse that comes out in lumps down the neck and sides when stressed?

We've checked and double checked its definitely related to higher adrenalin levels, ie when doing something she doesn't like, like trimming her mane or getting over excited

Hello! I have a hypo sensitive horse. Not only does he suffer from sweet itch, COPD, pollen allergies and all around sensitive skin he also gets the most horrible rash over his belly when he gets stressed. He comes out in really big hot lumps.

It's usually caused by something silly like the other horses going out 15 minuets earlier than he does, or him having his legs washed off when he doesn't want them.

The vet has been out to examine it on numerous occasions but the only thing that they could recommend was to give him a good dose of piriton when it flares up of popping him an extra steroid (when he has them for his sweet itch in summer) to take the edge off it!

I'm glad I'm not the only one!
 
Thank you as you say nice to know she is not the only one. She is only 18mold and so far not shown any other allergies.
we try to keep stress down BUT if we were to avoid it altogether she would learn to misbehave when it suits her :(
 
This is my problem. My lad is 15 now and he gets really upset as soon as one other horse goes out in the field in a morning. He has been known to climb over the stable door before now. As much as I don't want to give in to him i also try to make sure I'm up extra early so he's out first I'm trying to avoid the stress and injuries of him being a tit. It's so frustrating. He's got a stress rash at the moment. It's been there since Monday now and is just about starting to go. He's been on 10 piriton a morning and 10 piriton a night to take the rash down. It is working slowly but surely.

Also Aloe Vero gel works really well for him. It's cooling and seems to take the initial edge off.

Have you tried any calmers or anything for your mare? They don't really work for my fruit loop gelding but I've heard good things about them for stressy horses! :)
 
Oh I feel your pain. She is a friends mare. Luckily her lumps go down within hours.
we haven't tried anything yet as on,y really just confirmed what is going on

Luckily the mare trusts me too so I can help, but I suspect she is not going to be easy as her mom's first youngster :( I think it's one where things will need to be taken mega slowly
 
Oh that's good that they go down so quickly! If they don't like I said I can highly recommend Aloe Vera gel :) I just get a big bottle from Holland and barratts too :)
