Well, me and the slightly silly one attended his 2nd party today, a Stressage party!

He wouldnt settle in the morning when I rode him so I thought about withdrawing him - hate taking chances especially because hes a stallion. But I shook myself up and hacked him up.

He was noisy on arrival - no more than an excited youngster, and we hadnt even got 3 strides into the field before someone marched into the secretaries caravan and requested that we were asked to leave ( they werent even a member of the riding club I might add - and we are) They were told we wouldnt be asked to leave as he does nothing dangerous and I cope with handling him. Said person then went on to try and dictate my every move of the day - where I warmed up, what horses I was allwoed to stand near etc. How is my poor boy meant to learn how to behave with people like that! Most are fine, very accomodating - but I try my best to keep him away from the mares. Grrr.

exciteable warm up - excuse my shocking position and shocking riding. i tense up terribly when hes like that. i need to relax so he can!

So I started my test after an hour of more hard riding to try and settle him down. he does love parties now! very excitable. first test was our better - still VERY rushed though. need to work on getting him to settle even more so out turns and transistions are more fluent. amazing at home - but just need to channel his energy into his movements rather than his speed.

some lovley comments from the judges and some 8's! judge remarked on how quietly I rode him, and how quiet he went in the test for being a stallion. she seems a fan!

second test wasnt so good and judge wasnt so much of a fan. even called him a PONY! grrr....

BUT we got 4th in our first test, Members 2nd - and members 3rd in the 2nd test and think we were 8th out of 13 or something.

BUT our biggest achievement of the day was Lumi standing in the middle of the show, grazing, speaking to his fans, and allowing other horses to walk past him with minimal reaction. good boy!

Piccies ...

I think you rode and handled him really well, especially with him being a stallion. The test looks great, he's a smart boy :)

He looks like he's taking you for a walk in some of the photos of him :D

Hes super smart!

Yeh he jumped about for a bit before he settled but then he was fine.

Sometimes he's a handful but I wouldn't trade the spark that he's got for any mare or gelding.

Lovely boy, well done! And what shocking behaviour from the woman asking that you leave - if she ever goes to a BD event with all the stallions there, she'd have a heart attack!

Like you, I find it hard to get my PRE into a steady rhythm when he's tense - he turns into a little pony with staccato strides! Do you do lots of stretching work at home? I find that helps a lot. I do a good 10 minutes of walk work on circles and serpentines to settle him and encourage him to stretch at the start of each schooling session. Then when we get to a show I do the same so he understands what I want from him - so far it's worked well, though at our last show they ran so late that we were both completely over-done by the time we went in!!

Yeh - a lot Of stretching and circles- need to keep him constantly busy, to keep his mind working. He doesn't stretch well so we are working on him.

Women almost got a *******ing off myself she annoyed me so much, especially when he was so good.

I laughed when she then couldn't load her horse for an hour ; )

You have to love it when karma kicks in!!

It's taken a long time for P to learn to stretch too, but he's getting there! We don't get nearly such good stretching away from home but it's much much better than it used to be.

Got to love karma! :D

He looks lovely and very well behaved for a 4yr old at his 2nd outing (stallion of not!) Love the red rug - very smart!
You should always come 2nd as the colours suit him ;)

To slow his trot down (you may allready do this if so ignore) but slow your rising down to about the speed you want (will be rather uncomforatble for both of you but its kind of the idea that if he wants to be comfortable he has to match you, also as your thinking slow it rubs off - in theory...) and sit quite firmly/heavily of the 'sit' part of rising trot. And say out load steeaaady trot steeady trot and trooot trooot in the rhythm you want him to trot at/in. Do it at home as well so he gets the idea, sometimes when they are all exicted they will still listen to your voice even when ignoring everything else....

Looking forward to your next report!

We do the slow rising thing- did it lots in the warm up, but when i go to ride the test it's 50% me rushing in my self to get it over and done with!

He's 7, but still very green but trying his blimmin heart out!

I'd of strutted up and down past her with my rosettes on my jacket, patting them everytime she looked at me and smile at her with a smug face and say 'laters loser' as I walked off :D
