My mare has to stay on box rest for 2 months, were only 1 week into this but she is beggining to stress about it (I don't blame her)...

Could you recommend a calmer that I could put into her feed? I've never used them before and there are so many on the market I dont know where to start!!

Thanks

P.s she has boredom breakers - lickits, mirror, carrots hidden about etc...

When my mare was on box rest my vet agreed that I could make a stable size pen using elec fencing next to another quiet horse who was on restricted grazing. This worked well.
If this isn't an option I'd look into a Global herbs product, can't remember the name but it's pretty good.

Try not to stress about her stressing, normally the longer they are in the more they get used to it, try and keep things happening around her so she has something to look at, radio on in the yard, haynets doubled up, or even trebled so she has to work for her food, apples in water buckets, also ground work to break the day, teaching her to back up on command (if allowed to move that much), ground tying, step away games follow me games.

We have one on 12 weeks crossed tied at present so know how hard it is, also if she is on box rest, try to resist the temptation to bring her out at all, as this seems to make them think they are going to do more, if mine have to stay in the stable that is where they stay regardless, so they dont get excited that they may be going somewhere.
