OK, so the horses on my livery yard have just started to come in, and my mare has been very stressed out as I don't think she was stabled much with her prevouse owners. I know this is her just going through a phase of getting into a routine but I was wondering if any one had any suggestions on any types of calmers I could use on her. I'v been reccommended Oestress by NAF but im not entirely sure its a hormonal thing. Shes also very easily distracted and tetchy when out hacking on her own, again I am aware that much of this is a schooling issue and she needs to just be going out on her own more regulalry, but I think a little extra to help chill her out would help as she is slowly knocking my confidence, and I'm not one to quite.

Any help greatly received. Oh and she is on pure magnesium atm but that hasnt seemed to help much. :)

How long has she been on the magnesium supplement and did you double dose for the first week?
If you see no difference in a month, then it seems unlikely that she has a magnesium deficiency.
Does she come in to a haynet?

She has been on the magnesium since august now, so i think you could be right. Yh she comes into a haynet. She has settled in the stable now - after 2 weeks. But she is still so alert and switched on, was just wondering if there was anything that would help her calm down. Like valium for horses :)

Have you considered one of the webbing door guards? You can then leave the stable door wide open and hooked back - it's not quite so claustrophobic and has worked wonders with my door-kicker chestnut mare.

my mare was also a stress head when i got her in april so put her on oestress which worked really well but as her seasons have finished for the year i have reduced it and taken her off it and she is a complete stress head again so i am going to put her back on it as she is a big girl and is being a bit of a handfull again
