My good friend from work is on the search for her first horse. She has loaned previously but now wants one of her own. At first her budget was 3000-3500 but she is willing to extend that to about 4000.

I am really struggling to find a decent horse for her though! She isnt a total novice but is having lessons to improve her position etc. She mainly hacks but wants to do a bit of jumping and dressage. She has in her head the type of horse she wants and its not a 14.2 cob like I keep coming up with!

Is it a bad time of year to be looking? She went to see one on saturday which she thought could be the one so I went to see it with her again today and he was a sweet boy but his conformation was quite bad. I could see her having a lot of problems with how close behind he was. The seller (who was selling on behalf of someone else which seems to be very very common at the mo) said what do you expect for 3k?!

Out of interest what is her criteria?

She is looking for 15hh+, 6-12yr old that can live out although she can stable it when its really really cold. Good hacker that can give her confidence doing small jumps and do a dressage test. Possibly a bit of xc. She also is hoping not to travel far and we live in Warwickshire.

She is about 5'5 and very slight build which is why I thought she could cope on a small horse.

To be honest a patent safety first horse is what a lot of people are looking for and so they are quite expensive. If she'd look at an older horse (mid-late teens) she might have more luck.

I know it's a long way from where you are, but Emma Hinkley at Clip Clop Traders is fantastic at matching you with the right horse and won't sell you one if she thinks it won't be suitable for you.
