Hi all,

I have never used a stretch neck cover at all and have heard some horror stories about the ones that have eye holes, involving them slipping and covering a horses eyes causing them to panic etc but...i am tempted to get one that has no face and is just over the ears to put under my horses tunrout rug for extra warmth and to protect against rubbing. Every year i lose half his mane to full neck rugs and i have heard these can help save them from being pulled out by them. Any way what are your thoughts on them guys? The link below is the one i am thinking of getting.

Thanks to every one in advance :)

Hmm, I had one of the lycra stretch ones with the eyeholes and would never, ever, use one again; when I went up to the field my poor boy was stood there with it all over his eyes, he just couldn't see a thing and bless him didn't know what else to do so was just standing there waiting to be rescued.

I'm in the same situation of looking for something more suitable so will be interested in the replies too! (sorry, am highjacking your thread).

Hehe its fine don't worry :)

Thats the same as me...well i have never used them before but have heard stories like your about the ones with eye holes. Just wondered if they were any good as i hate losing my boys poor mane...!

I have bought a snuggy with ears and zip for turn out this year and while my boy managed to get the no neck version off, he can't seem to shift this one at all (and believe me he does try as is a really one for rolling). I will caveat this though by saying that a: these are great and are made for turn out but they ARE expensive - waited and got mine a little cheaper in the summer b: his lordship only really goes out for a morning before asking to come back in and staff are on the yard to see if anything goes wrong.

I like the look of the one you have a link to but bear in mind that is only meant for indoors and won't be very helpful outdoors..

Ah yes i have seen the out door ones they do look good. Mine would only be wearing it under his full neck rugs which would cover the whole of the lycra cover. I want it really to protect his mane from being rubbed out by the big full neck rugs he has on throughout winter and thought it may give some extra warmth as well as helping to save his mane?

Thanks for your posts peeps :)

My grey mare wore a Snuggy Hood Turnout with ears and eye holes all winter living out 24/7 last year and it was a godsend. Never budged an inch, kept her dry, warm and clean but I agree that it probably isnt suitable for those horses that are only seen once a day (my horses are at home so I can see them from house) and I am worried about it catching on branhces and things. However I would say that although they are stretching they do seem to keep in place if if you try and twist them (believe me I tried!)

I've been looking at the same thing but more to try and keep a white neck/mane clean for competitions - my coloured horse is very good at getting mud under his full neck rug..

They look good as guessing the bit around the ears would prevent it from slipping back - I've also seen one that's held on by a headcollar.

Looking at the snuggy hoods website, the turnout ones have the full face and cut-outs for eyes (again I would worry about that) rather than just neck?

Yes THIS IS WHAT I WAS THINKING, THEY LOOK QUITE SECURE AND IF THEY DID MOVE THEY WOULDNT BE ABLE TO GO OVER THE HORSES EYES OR ANYThING IN ANY WAY (THIS WAS MY MAIN CONCERN WITH THE ONES WITH EYE HOLES)

OOppps caps lock :/

I have seen the ones that attach to a headcollar but i also never turn out in headcollars as i worry about them catching on things. I think i will get one and see how we go, anything to rescue his mane from rubbing and it think it will keep him toasty aswell :) This also seems to be one of the few makes that do the option of not having it over the face with the eye holes. Its the only make that really came up when i googled. It also has a zip so u don't have to stretch it over their head which is good as i think my boy would get wise to be trying to tug something over his head and not let me do it! Hehe. I will let u know how we get on! :) xx
