stretching long boots

Hi guys, quick question for all you knowledgable people

I bought a pair of long leather cavallo riding boots in the sale. I tried them on and they fitted fine (a tad tight but the shop assistant said that they'd eventually mould to my leg after a bit of walking around in them) but only problem was that it was middle of winter and the shop was freezing cold. I wore them once to ride in and had to take them off because my legs were throbbing and going numb!!

To the point is there any way I can stretch them??

put them near a heater but not too close, then once they are a warmish and a bit softer put them on and do loads of bending you legs and crouching down etc.
Thats what i did with mine and there perfect now!!
 
I had this problem and Im affraid I had to sell them in the end. I even put them in the bath on the advice of an old horse man who said theyd mold to my legs whilst wet. Not reccomended, I couldnt get them off. I was scared they'd ruin but they didnt. Took them to a cobblers who stretched them but that didnt make any difference and tried going through the pain barrier, riding in them, walking round the house in tights and my boots, no Im not kinky but without the tights I couldnt get the damn things off.

Haha! I can't sell them they're just too nice! I got them at a third of their price so im determined that they're keepers. Anyway, I don't think I'm brave enough to put them in the bath!
They have got zips though, so at least I can get out of them when in agony!

Edited to say: How much did it cost to take them to the cobblers? Also did it not work coz they were rubbish cobblers or is taking them to the cobblers a waste of time?? Thanks again!
 
He only charged me a fiver! and he put wooden trees in them which could be made bigger like a vice, he also wet them. He did say though the trees werent really long enough as they were for fashion boots. A proper saddler may have them though. I got mine cheap too but really had to give up in the end for fear of my feet dropping off. Ive got zipped boots now.
 
Thats what I was going to suggest. I too have bought a pair of long boots in the sale (but from Robinsons) and they are tight on my calves. I am going to get the cobbler to put zips in them for me to give me a little extra room, some elastic would be a good idea too.
 
I had mine streched as well and it made no difference so I wouldn't hold out much hope. Best bet is either elastic or get a saddler to add an extra strip of leather, discretly, so you get a bit more width?? Good luck.....remember no pain no gain!!!

If you go to a decent saddler selling leather boots you ought to be able to get your boots stretched properly. The maximum you can get is about one inch around the calf, but it sounds as though this might be enough. It is likley to take between two or three days and a week to get done. I used to get this done regularly at the start of each hunting season, when either the boots had shrunk through wet and sweat during the last season, or my legs had got fatter.
