I bought a new pair of long leather boots last year and never needed them, and suddenly i have a show on Thursday and thought I best break them in.
They have a full zip down the back and where fitted to be tight on the top of the calf so when they stretch and sag (as they will once they are worn in) they will still be a neat fit around the rest of my leg and not go saggy in the ankles.

So my problem is, they are a very tight fit round the top of my calf - is there anything I can do to stretch them/soften them before Thursday? (I am wearing them now round the house to try and get a bit of give in them)

Um, wear the 24/7?! Might get a bit kinky at bedtime, though

Don't think there's a short cut apart from wearing them as much as possible, really. You could try oiling them around the ankles to help with give, or warm them in front of the fire before you put them on. It expands the leather and helps mould them to your leg shape.

Just don't do what I did, let them get too hot then try to put them on and realise too late that a) your legs are burning, b) there's nobody in the house to help get them off, c) try on your own and get stuck halfway and d) cry with pain! Then e) cry again becaus eyou now can't get them off but can't pull them on either because they don't have zips and you can't reach the tabs to pull. They fit nicely now, though.

Try flexolan on the bit that is tight, worked with my old ones (pull on ones). If you can bear to wear them round the house then try the flexolan and wearing them as much as possible. Good luck.

There is no short cuts to breaking a new pair of leather riding boots in.....just get riding in them as much as possible before the show, they usually drop an inch (give at the ankle) you'll find they may rub around the ankle, back of knee for the first month but then they will fit like a glove lol!
