Strimmer for buttercups.

Like so many others I’m over run with buttercups. Looking for advice & experience of others. Thinking of buying a lightweight cordless strimmer so that I can keep on top of them. Does anyone do this? If it could do docks, nettles & reeds as well that would be a bonus.

I have strimmed buttercups before, it made little difference they still kept coming back.

A strimmer suitable to do buttercups may not be adequate for docks and reeds. For that I would suggest you will need a more powerful machine which usually has a petrol engine. Docks and reeds are hard work for a strimmer.

I have a strimmer to deal with docks, nettles etc. No reason not to strim them.

ETA is you go into "club house" there is a thread about strimmers dated 7/5 that may help.

We have a petrol strimmer it’s too heavy for me to use for long. I’m fit & healthy but am 77 so not as strong as I once was. It’s hard to know what to do for the best. Find someone to spray & have to keep horses off or cut them down & repeat. We also have a spray back pack but again it’s heavy.
 
I am just about to use a nap sack spray for buttercups, need to keep animals off for 7 days. Also just bought a stihl battery strimmer which was expensive but a petrol one was too much of a faff mixing fluids and very heavy so fingers crossed it will be ok !
 
We have a dewalt electric strimmer which is excellent.
We originally used a spear and Jackson strimmer, it didn't cope with docks very well but would be sufficient for buttercups.

it is just a thought both for you and anyone finding a petrol strimmer heavy, do you/they have a proper harness rather than just one that goes over the head/shoulder?

a properly adjusted harness (so you are not carrying the weight of the strimmer) makes so much difference

I bought one of these a few weeks ago for the garden, it has plastic blades, thought I would give it a try up the field. I cut down the nettles and the thistles and the odd young dock it worked really well, is very light to use and the charge lasts a good 35 minutes plus. Today I tried out my new battery strimmer, honestly its a game changer its so much lighter than a petrol one

Stihl FSA 135 Cordless Brush Cutter (Power Unit) been looking at it for three years and decided to take the plunge yes expensive but no more mixing of fluids and its a weight I can manage unlike the petrol one which was just to numb and heavy for me. I got a good deal, just need to search around I got two batteries for one​
