So, I did the string test today. Measured at 30cm which is 11.8 inches. Davi is already 12.2! So either I can't measure or this is way off. He's around two. We think rising two. Vet said no older. Anyway, I think he must have a short cannon bone. No idea what what else to do to guesstimate.

Done it again today. But measured from Ergot to elbow, then Elbow to withers. The leftover being how much he has to grow. IE what was more than the length of the Ergot to Elbow. So, according to that, he has just over a hand to go and should finish out at 13.2- 13.3. Which as he's 12.2 now as a two-year-old, should be about right.

Is that’s what you want him to make or what was estimated??

I have seen a 15.2hh string test go to 16hh, I ride him quite a bit lol but when we did it in him at just under two hrs I think it was what was indicated :)

What was estimated. Lol I would love him to get to 14.2 with a longer back, so I can ride him. But, I bought him to be my daughter's pony.

This is him pre and post-bath. He has a driving body.

I’ve just string tested my yearling. Elbow bone to ergot was 78cm so double that and 156cm so about 15.2h?
He is 18 months and about 14h so I reckon that could be about right?
Tho he is a pure bred Connie so would be over height

Christ alive please no 😂😂😂 have I done it right tho? Sticky out elbow bone then down to his ergot then double it?

No. You simply measure how far above the wither the tape is and that is the final height. So if he's 14h and the tape is 2" above the wither, he'll likely end up 14.2h.

Ah right okay. So I’m measuring the difference between his current height and where the string ends up when I pivot it up over his withers?
So, if he is about 142 cm at the moment and the string was about 158cm doubled then he has about another 15-16 cm to go as that would be the difference between his current wither and the string pivot? Still comes out the same tho?
Sorry am I being totally dense?!

It's probably easier to demonstrate than to explain.....

Like Faracat said - final predicted height is (2 x length of string) + length of gap between ergot and floor.

So in your case it would be (2 x 79cm) + height of ergot from floor. So maybe around 165cm :)

He is a full bred Connie so I doubt he would be that big 😮 well I hope he won’t be anyway!
Predicted height was around 15h. We will see!!

It is an estimate and isn't foolproof. My gelding is 15.1hh and his predicted height was 16.2hh - he just has proportionately long legs due to his breeding lines (lots of El Shaklan blood, who had loooong legs). My mare who is the same breed, but different lines is bang on her string tested predicted height.

The obvious solution is to drive him then ;) Short backs and big bums are a nightmare for saddle fitting but ideal for driving.
Lol, I bought him for my now six-year-old daughter. Well, I was supposed to be buying her a pony, but I went with my heart and not my head. But, yeah, he's an ideal driving pony.
