For the last few days I have noticed a 'striping' within the hair of my mare's flanks - as if it is raised in stripes. The only time I have seen this happen before was when she had the back lady out and she said it was 'lymphatic drainage'. Why would this now be happening of its own accord or does this happen for any other reason? The only thing that has changed is that she is on some different haylage........

Is it just the hair or is the skin and fat beneath involved as well? I'm not too sure of anything it could be, but pictures would be useful if you can get some on!

Have you got any pics? I'm trying to picture what you mean but can only see what my boys get when they rub against wire fencing. :o

Sorry I don't have any pics. The stripes are only just detectable and the hair is pushed up by the raised skin but it is so slight... Hard to explain!

Ha! Looking a bit like a Zebra actually. I would google it and try to investigate but am only on my Blackberry and it's too small. There will be a lymphatic drainage expert along shortly I'm sure :)

I can't be sure that the skin is raised, it is barely detectable aside from the hair being raised in stripes - thin stripes. Could any kind soul try to find a pic of lymphatic drainage in horses and post? I am now computerless until Friday (currently in transit to the Seaside :)) no other allergy signs occuring....

Billie, if you press your horse does it create a stripe?

We had a very odd happening a few years ago, horse could be ridden fine but run your fingers across him and he would stripe. We could even get handprints! I have some pics if you want to compare.

No one had any clue what caused it and in the end we put him on a course of NAF Detox which seemed to do the trick.

Ooooh yes stick a picture up! Haven't noticed if I press and now I am 300 miles away from her so can't check! She has been quite sensitive to touch lately actually - not where the stripes are - just in general.... I thought she was just having a moody week...

Thats a handprint and two stripes caused literally by finger pressure. Its not hair disturbance and couldn't be brushed out, they would fade over around a half hour or so.

Hey!! Did you find a cure for the stripes?? Our stallion has the exact same thing! We think it's a kind of worm? I will post a photo later, do you have a photo too?
