What are the symptoms in dogs? Pop the old border has been fine all day, went for a short walk this morning then snoozled before eating a bone in the garden for a bit then snoozling some more. Its supper time now and she can't stand properly, he legs are splayed and she can't bend her head to eat. We lifted the bowl up and shes ate but wobbling like a good un, her back legs are splayed and she looks drunk. She can see OK. (Shes deaf already so no change there).
Have rung my vet and waiting for a call back, have put her in her cage now and shes just lying down, shes not in distress.

Well shes pottering around again now so spoke to vet and agreed (well, I suggested) as she seems OK will leave it til Monday. Thank you.

Our JRT had several episodes rather like this, we were told that it is often an inner ear thing as opposed to a stroke, she always seemed to pick up again after a couple of days but she couldn't walk in a straight line to save her life!

Our old lab (15yrs) has been having what the vet thinks are minor strokes. She gets very distressed, pants and is wobbly on her feet. The symptoms last about 30-60 mins by which time she is fine ad if nothing has happened?!

The first few had a few mths between them then she had one 3 days in a row. Vet placed her on mild steroids, not sure if that's helped but she hasn't had one since.

Hope your collie is ok, always worrying when the oldies start to show there age.

What's called a stroke in dogs is more often than not vestibular syndrome (inner ear problem) signs are head tilt, nausea, and a symptom called nystagmus, when their eyes flicker very quickly from side to side. This is what makes them feel so sick as they can't focus on anything. They are also wobbly.

Attacks can me mild or severe, and once they've had one they are more suscebtible. I'd pop her to vets on Monday for a check up xx

Certainly will do, thank you. She does seem even more clueless than usual this morning...but I suppose that will be me one day!
