My gypsy cob has been a bit of a plod but Could be spooky, me being an older rider just got back into it suffered from nerves, in the last three months I have really pushed myself and my cob with lessons and riding him as much as possible, we are now both quite confident but my previously ploddy boy has discovered that being strong and not slowing when I ask in canter is good fun. He is in a French link snaffle, would a stronger bit help?

Yes it would - far better to use a stronger bit and use it less......I find strong cobs go well in pelhams so maybe one you could try?

I'm a life long cob fan.

Cobs have really thick necks and can be heavy in the mouth. The default position seems to be - its a cob - stick a stronger bit in. But cobs are as capable as any other breed of responding to a rider's weight and seat aids. Please learn how to hold him with your body and seat. Cobs no not automatically need stronger bits.
