I have a strong cob. She is not naughty in anyway just very strong on the hands and you have to really pull to make her stop. What do you recommend as a bit and nose band for her. She is currently in a normal nose and and a Wilkie snaffle. I just want a little more brakes. She also likes to open her mouth and chew the bit

We had a strong little cob type. A grackle suited him. Along with a fiddly bit. He had a double jointed mouth with copper rings. Not harsh or strong but he liked to fiddle with it which in turn relaxed his jaw.
I’d say play around with metals and mouth pieces rather than straight away bitting up.
Nb- ours was perfect in the school. Not at all strong, relaxed and soft.
Get him out into fields though he was a different story, sometimes not always and if you wanted to walk or trot he happily would. In canter he was different!

Mine is very strong out hacking but not at all in the school. I use a universal bit and use the snaffle ring for schooling and gag ring for hacking .

My old boy has a lot of flesh inside his cheeks and a lot of tongue. He was never happy with a bit and constantly fought/evaded it. Eventually tried him bitless and he settled more or less from day one and we never looked back. Once he had worked out the pressure was coming from a different place and got the instructions bedded in, he stopped fighting and became lovely and soft. Appreciate it's not for everyone, but cob mouths are a bit different from the norm.
