Hi has anyone got any ideas of a bit I can try my event horse in during the xc phase. She is quite strong anyway just to showjump but when I xc her she does the whole course leaning on my hands so I need something to bring her head up. Not sure If I want to ride with two reins. Thanks

Have you tried something along the lines of a tom thumb gag - we used a sweet iron one with copper rollers for similar horse + small rider, worked a treat until he became more settled and we reverted to a Dr Bristol.

I have the same problem with winston, 17h IDxTB.
I currently use a KK universal which helped, but I find the best bit ever was the American Gag cherry roller. THey featured this bit in H&H last thursday.
Its quite a bit! but brilliant as winston comes straight back to me without me having to slow down miles before we are jumping.
It really gets them off the forehand making life so much easier.

I had problems xc with my boy he puts his head down and off he goes. I now use a waterford gag, the waterford mouth piece stops him getting hold of the bit and I use a leather chin strap which stops him putting his head down, this combination is great as I only have to put the chin strap on for the xc and can use the same bit for the sj.

for a horse that leans you need something they can not grab hold of so - waterford, cherry roller etc.

my horse is very strong i have to xc him in hannoverian cherry roller pelham with high port ! i hate resulting to this bit because it looks so nasty but it is the only thing that stopd him xx

I had similar problems and rang bitworld www.bitworld.co.uk ( i think) They were so helpful, i explained what the prob was, they suggested some bits and sent me a load to try then i kept one and sent the rest back - ended up with a myler combination but the old one they dont' make anymore whcih is sort of inbetween the 2 that they do make now!!

Look up pee wee bit on google its worked for some prof eventing people I told that had the same prob as yours, good luck.
