My ID is fine when i ride him alone, he can be a little strong in canter but he calms after a few minutes when asked. When i hack out in company he is a completely different horse and he is so strong!!

He is 12 and all i know about him is he was hunted in the past. I bought him as a" snaffle mouth" but he was in very poor condition and he is now looking good and i guess the feed has spiced him up a bit. As you can imagine he is not ridden in a snaffle any more.

I dont like riding with 2 reins in a pelham which is what i ride him in now and someone suggested a gag as it can be used with one rein but is still a good bit for strong horses.

Any suggestions???

My 17.1 ID can be exceptional strong when out with a crowd but light and responsive snaffle ride at all other times. I was recommended Dutch gag as well as the following

Cheltenhan Gag (two rein problem again - but have seen them ridden with just one rein attached to the cheek piece ring

Waterford Snaffle

Pelham (with roundings)

I got a Dutch gag custom made for him (6.5 inch!) but it made no difference when he was really strong. He has respected the Pelham - suspect the curb chain. I've not gone and got the others made for him since the Pelham worked

Hope that helps!
