my niece has got to ride my pony at a rally next month (transport issues so got to hack there, too far for the shettie would take him all day so hacking my mare there for her)

my mare (in sig pics) is 13.1 WHP and very strong although is well behaved for 6 year old tiny niece on LR. however she does lean on the bit, she has ridden her in a hanging cheek as i thought this would be best or should i put her in her gag perhaps? My nieces hands and arms ache after about 1/2 hour of riding her because she is trying her best to keep the reins a reasonable length.

Any other tips appreciated - I only need a quick fix as she doesnt ride her very often.

how about the waterford gag on the first ring near the snaffle, pony use to it and the 6r should have breaks or another bit is pelham with roundings or a kimblewick

Can you not ride your pony and lead the Shetland to the rally? If the kiddies' not going to be on the LR on your pony it could end in disaster.
