Looking for recommendations for a strong turnout rug that will be tough enough to withstand my playful 3 year old Percheron cross that likes to mess with my old horses rugs!

He’s pulled the shoulder flap thing off my Rambo Optimo, taken the side off a premier equine and pulled a belly strap off a Rambo duo! lol!

Looking at the Rambo supreme as it’s 1680D. Are these strong and do they need sizing down like the Rambo Optimo?

Any other suggestions welcome! Cost not an issue if it’s a strong rug that will withstand a cheeky youngster! 🤣🤣

Premier Equine who do a similar 1680d set of rugs (very stupidly I changed rug without a headcollAr on horse shot over round a 7 acre field for a good 10 minutes with it round her chest underneath her and the only the binding came off).

Haha! The trials and tribulations of horse ownership!

I bought the PE 1680D 40g in October. Put it on last week for the snow we’ve just had which turned to rain on Saturday and my PE rug turned into a sieve! Just submitted a return claim to where I bought it from!

I swapped him into the 0g PE with a liner to find it yesterday with a whole side ripped off so he is back into the Rambo duo with 2 straps instead of the 3! Thank goodness for Black Friday coming up! Hoping to find a deal!

I had a PE rug which rain basically just soaked straight through, they were pretty stroppy about taking it back, so much for their guarantee, and it had only been on a horse once for a few hours. I have 3 which are OK though and they have lasted quite well.

I tend to just buy a lot of used rugs or anything cheap in a sale and use parts from old rugs for diy repairs. Mine have grown out of wrecking rugs somewhat so there's hope for a 3yo!

So far I have found my Gallop Trojan good but I'm not sure it will stand up to abuse that a Rambo hasn't stood up to. Tbh I'd probably go for getting a cheap as possible turnout (second hand potentially?) to go over the top of the good rugs.

I found buying a cheap rain sheet to go over a turnout and painting the rain sheet in cribox was the only thing that prevented one of the youngsters ripping my old mares rugs.

From someone with 2 very playful youngsters this is honestly the cheapest option. We have a rug wash lady that also repairs and sells second hand rugs for charity. They are always waterproof and cheap - a few of these usually see me through winter with a the base layer rug intacted.
