My horse and I are going to our first show on sunday and I'm after some tack advice.
after masses of schooling and trying every bit going I have finally found something that works - a french link hanging cheek snaffle with a grakle noseband and martingale. Her steering is excellent in this, but the brakes could be better, however she goes forward willingly and enjoys jumping in it.
previously I used a dutch gag and cavesson noseband and moved the reins up one hole at a time as her schooling got better. she had effective brakes but her jumping could be hesitant.
I have no idea what she'll be like at the show so I'm not sure whether to swap back to her old bit on the snaffle ring, just in case. Then if shes a loon I could put it down a hole. The dutch gag is single jointed and I don't know if I'm comfortable using that with a grakle. with no local tack shops its out of the question finding a french link gag by the weekend.
My gut instinct is stick with the snaffle and hope she behaves, what does everyone else think?
