I've posted about my mare a few times as her behaviour has got progressively worse. She's now bucking and throwing herself about almost every time I get on. Took her for a gentle hack today with her stablemate and she started halfway round, for no good reason. Up til now I had been thinking it was behavioural (her testing me)

Anyway, had a call into the vet to discuss it with them and have been waiting for them to get back to me.
Just had a chat with them and I am taking her in tomorrow!
Thinks she may have ovarian cysts and this is worth checking out before I send her (&me) for training.

So fingers crossed please that I can get to the root cause of my stroppy mare (2nd in my siggy) because she truly is lovely and has lots of talent.

Fingers crossed for you the vet finds a simple problem that can be put right. Took my screwy mare to the vets for back X-rays on Tuesday, all it confirmed was her back is fine, she has a paranoid owner and her problem does seem to be in her head! Kind of frustrating when you get the feeling something isn't right with the horse. Good luck.

Good luck! I hope you get an answer

Thanks guys,

KVS - this is actually what I think will happen with my mare! But at least then I will know she is just having me on and I can try and deal with it. Mares, eh?

We used to have a mare at our yard who was completely screwy - she used to just rear up for no apparent reason and throw herself on the floor. It turned out she had an ovarian cyst the size of a grapefruit. Poor girl must have been in agony. It was opperated on successfully and she turned back into a sweetheart. Hope you find an answer - it is the not knowing that is worst.

If it's not ovarian anything, would it be worth looking at food intollerance? We had to take our old TbxWelsh down to no food except hay and then work out slowly that she couldn't eat sugar or wheat. The current Appy Amber, can't cope with either mollasses or Alfalfa, she got nappy and awful, but is now back to her usual sweet but spooky self.
