Hi horsey peeps!

Could anyone give me some advice on finding 'forward' please?

I've been a bit (very) spoilt with my old horse who i knew inside out, and he knew me the same, plus he was a total powerhouse so forward wasn't something we ever had an issue with. A year ago i had to make the extremely hard decision to give him to a very good friend of mine while i was pregnant and we all decided that he should stay there because he has such an amazing life with her.

Anyway, i am now lucky enough to borrow a friend's horse when i can sneak out for some horsey 'me time' and although he is a super horse i really struggle to get him to work forward consistently. His owner mainly hacks him but he used to do a lot of jumping and dressage with her daughter so he is well schooled, just a bit out of practice. When i try to ask him to go forward he tends to become 'pingy', throws his head up or turns his body into me, if that makes sense? We do get some really good work in parts, and i know i'm out of practice, am not able to ride him regularly and can be a bit naggy with my hands but any tips would be much appreciated.
