My youngster seems to struggle keeping weight on. Which may be to him growing but it seems like he never ever looks 'well' in the weight department, always just under.
And at the moment the poor lad is really quite skinny. Im panicking thinking people will think im not looking after him properly!
He gets two feeds a day, and is on D&H Suregrow, Chop and Sugar beet. He's out all the time so has access to grass, yet still seems to be a skinnie minnie. A couple of people suggested barley rings.
And he isnt wormy as i wormed him recently and im assuming his teeth are ok as he's having no trouble eating, though he will be being checked soon as we're having the dentist out.

he's an 11 month old Appaloosa gelding, last time i measured him before he dropped weight he was standing at 13.2hh so could be bigger now.
What would you do if he was yours?

Thanks in advance

I'd be inclined to have a worm count done anyway and possibly blood tests, at the very least express your concerns to your vet. He really should be doing ok on this grass and decent feed. You could try a 2 week course of Pink Powder and see if it has any effect.

G was a hat rack when I bought him as a 3 year old. He suddenly started to hold his weight and muscle at about 6 years old, he came through last winter (as an 8 year old) on fibre cubes.

hey alfa beet is very good for keeping and puting weight on horses particularly TB!! I had a TB that was previously being fed tons of good quality mix etc and after 2 weeks on alfa beet i really saw the difference. Friends with TB have also had sucess with it.

Its worth a try as it wont fizz them up (unless they are one that cant have alfalfa) and its cheap ish comparitively I pay £9.50 a bag and feed about a bag a month for 1 horse.

Worth a go I use it instead of Sugarbeet and Alfa A.
