I've just bought a really nice Stubben bridle. It comes with tag for Hamanol, but until I get some will it be alright if I use Hydrophane leather dressing on it?

Yes it will. My stubben bridle has survived about 7 years of using every sort of saddle soap under the sun - still looks good

I looked at some stubben bridles recently and was a bit dissapointed, the quality is nowhere near as good as they used to be. The leather wasnt as good and the workmanship was actually dodgy in places, on several bridles. My old ones have lasted for years but im not convinced stubben bridles are as good as they used to be:(

Thanks dieseldog. I've never had one before teddyt, this is secondhand (but in as new condition). It seems well made and of good quality to me but I've only had English leather bridles from local saddlers before.

id say depends what colour it is, my stubben bridle is the burgandy colour and i think normal leather dressing darkens the colour. so i only use hammanol (sp) on mine, however if you have a normal havana or black bridle then it shouldnt make any difference what leather dressing you use on it

If its second hand i expect its the better quality. The ones being made now really are obviously poorer quality.
