Looking for a saddle for my youngster - typically the current one doen't fit and as its too narrow can't even use as a stop gap!!

If anyone knows anyone who has a Stubben SIegfried MF special - 30 fit and 17 or 17.5 saddle. In good condition can they PM me (perferrably with price....)

Have found one but its worn away the top layer of leather at the bottom of the saddle flap - had thought stubben was hard wearing -is this usual with this particular saddle and also is there much variation on the size ie is a 30 going to be similar size across all saddles or is there a big difference.

Many thanks in advance..

i have 2 stuuben siegfreid cs, both 30, both different! i love my stubbens but no 2 are the same! both fit different horses. i ve also got an mf that we must have had 10 years its been hunted in as well as competed in, i ve looked after it well but its not worn any more than you would expect for a saddle of that age.

These saddles have a thinner leather, doubled up rather than the extra thick leather that the regular siegfreids are made from. Mine has worn very thin but it has been my main hunting and hacking saddle for 18 years so i really cant complain...especially as it was well used when i bought it

I wouldn't dismiss the idea of an older model Siegfried, just because it is slightly worn, the older models are so much better than the more recent ones. Like so many munufactures, they have moved their production source around, not always an advantage, except to them. Given an option, I would go for an older model any day!

Agree totally - if i could find another circa 25 yr old like mine in good condition then i would snap it up. Mine would have had new flaps fitted but the tree is very slightly twisted and you cannot get that tree anymore- the later ones just are not as flat. so it is now my emergency saddle rather than day to day

Ummm I'm confused. I have a c20 year old Stubben Siegfried, I think it's called Siegfried II, it's a flat seat forward cut jump saddle which I LOVE. But my saddler was very dismissive about them due to the narrow nature of the panels.

Admittedly it's hard as a rock to sit on, but I loved jumping in it. I no longer ride in it and was going to sell it, but may hang on to it for when it's back in fashion again
