Hi

My friend has recommended this girth, and i wondered if anybody else had any views on this girth.
The reason for asking is to give my horse more freedom.
thanks

I have one.
It helps with saddle stability as it is nice and wide. It is lovely and soft, almost silky, not like the old string girths and my lad seems to be comfortable in it.
I have heard of some horses becoming a bit girthy in them (think I read that here actually), but my experience of them has been good. If you do a search, I'm pretty sure there have been a couple of threads about them previously.
Sadly my horse has porked out a bit recently, and it's a bit short now, so it's consigned back to the tackroom until I can get a bit more lard off him!

My husbands leather girth snapped (well the buckle) just before hunting, so he used an old Stubben cord girth, he was rather embarrassed about it, as it reminded him of the old string girths..... BUT he had sooooooooooo many people out hunting (older folk) saying ohhh where did you get them from, they are wonderful, wish you could still buy them! X

I have used this girth since I got my boy. My saddler recommended it and my horse really likes it. TBH he isn't girthy or anything so he would probably be ok in anything. I don't have problems with saddle slipping or anything.

The only pain with it is that if you are doing a lot of work out in this weather it gets muddy. I have two so I can wash it and have a clean one to use. They are easy to wash, just swill around in some warm water but it is more time consuming than just wiping down.

I've found them very good at giving stability - I have a broad native type and the cord girth helped a lot as could use the 4th girth strap with the split ends. I've found them to also be very gentle on "girthy" horses.

Just be careful when washing not to shink them (I found out the hard way!)

Molly took a dislike to them though after about 2 years and is now in uber expensive double ended elastic atherstone leather. Typical diva!

I have one and love it. My horse is a bit of a sensitive flower and this is nice and soft and doesn't rub like other designs. I also love the fact you can bung them in the washing machine. Only down side is that they aren't the easiest to get hold of, if anyone knows of good places to buy them let me know as I'd like a brown one.

Very goods girths. Recommend buying from Subben Direct as per above link. I bought a second one elsewhere (seemed a bargain price) but quality was not as good (cords did not quite lie flat) tho I still use it, but I suspect it was a factory reject - so stick to main Stubben suppliers.

(sorry if hijacking); I remember the old nylon girths we used to have at Pony Club, thinking about it they were probably awful for our poor ponies as they used to ruckle up and poor pony would have been nearly split in two by them. But they were (unfortunately?) very much used in those days.

The other thing that happened was that the nylon would always start to unravel from one end and you had to repair it!!!

So when I saw these "new" Stubben girths I must admit I was very cynical and thought "oh no, not these resurrecting themselves".

I have read people's reports and experiences of these girths (probably there's a whole generation coming up who never used the 'original' nylon girths ;) ) and TBH they still don't tempt me. Still can't get rid of the old prejudice towards nylon girths!!! :) Perhaps I will one day .....???

It would be interesting to hear people's reports from say six months down the line, which was about the time period when the old-style nylon girths started unravelling and had gone to a horrible shape.

Many thanks for all the great comments, i have now purchased my first stubben girth.

FAB very excited, just need some sunny weather now to go out riding.
Don't suppose any of you know where i can get some of that from.

Sorry, I don't understand "sunny weather", is it a new video game?

Priceless!!!!

I've used them for a couple of years now and am old enough to remember the nylon ones, and string before that. The Stubben girths are fab, if you look after them properly. All mine have loved them and I wouldn't use anything else now.

I have two of these girths.

I admit, that they are 'pretend' Stubben.
They cost about £15.00 from Ebay, the company was Irish.
They just had some tarnishing to the buckles, that's the only flaw.

Lovely girths. I used to hand wash them, but I now use girth sleeves that are wide enough to accomodate them, so I can just wash the sleeve when need be.

I've had mine a year and it is still in pretty immaculate shape, despite being slung in the washing machine. It is lovely and soft and wide, it doesn't ruckle up and doesn't rub or pinch, my mare got rubbed by a thorowgood shaped and padded girth and has been much more comfortable in the stubben.

I remember the nylon girths and the string ones and these are very different. Lovely and soft, chunky ropes, easy to wash, breathable etc.

Really like them always have them on my jumping saddle :)

Looking at the link I didn't realise they did them for dressage saddles, anyone have a dressage one, just wondering how that works do they have keepers to tuck the ends of the girth straps into

They're lovely girths, very soft fabric but strong and adds to the stability of the saddle.
Cooler than other girths on sweaty horses and don't twist, ruck or pinch.

Washes well and in between, just run under the tap to get mud off after a ride.

Bought one 2 or 3 years ago and its still like new.

I've got the Irish snidy one, I think it's fab. I got it because every other type was rubbing: he has very pink skin.

Fab idea about a girth sleeve, thanks. Do you find you need a slightly bigger girth if you use a girth sleeve? Mine washed fine on 40 degrees in a wash bag.

I'm finding my horse is quite girthy recently, dunno if it's the girth or the sudden decrease in work. :o

I highly recommend them. They ate comfy ,help to stop saddle moving forward if your horse has a forward girth groove conformation and they do mot pinch.

These girths are fantastic - especailly for sensitive horses or those prone to sweating rashes. These ae the only girths I can use on my arab mare. No rubs, no sores. I swear by them!!

I've got one, they're brilliant. If you are looking for grip, remember a girth sleeve will remove that benefit.

I love them, they are the only kind that don't rub my mare. I found them easy to get hold of. They regularly come up for sale on eBay and there were lots for sale at Gatcombe when I went a couple of years ago
