Hello and thank you for letting me join the group. I am a 48 year old l;ady who has spent 38 years just hacking. I have 2 lovely horses and i am new to this group but i wanted to say hello and ask some advice if thats ok.
I now have a youngster is a 17.3 7 year old bay Hanoverian, shes a beautiful kind very willing horse but i have found that her girth is rubbing her a little, no sores but rubbed the hair off slightly on both sides.
First i was wondering what people use to help this, i was going to be old fashioned and try good old sudacream but if anyone knows any thing better please let me know.
Also i have just bought a stubbern equisoft girth to try for her with our dressage saddle. Bit late in life but may try some endurance and dressage competitions
I used it for the first time last night and found after a while she was nibbling at the buckles on one side.
I am honest and ask for professional help with tack as i worry about getting things wrong for my girls but could anyone suggest the reasons for this or could it be that she just doesnt like it?
She never done it before with a cheap sheepskin girth but that was too small so needed to get a new one and its so important for her to be comfortable as she has also suffered bad ulcers

Please could anyone advise

Thank you

When you do the girth up, do you check that the little padded leather tabs are lifted up so they protect the skin from the buckle? They do tend to fold down , then they can be uncomfy. I fnd I need to check both side when I before I tighten the girth - they can be up when you put it on, but the fall down:)

The other thing to check is length - the longer the better, so it is close to the bottom of your saddle and out of the sensitive area just above the elbows.
