At the risk of exposing myself to ridicule...

My little yard opens at the back onto my field. It opens via a large heavy wooden door - well, I should say opened, as the door's stuck closed :(. So I'm currently turning the horses out in the front paddock over night, and keeping them on the yard during the day (accessed by the front gate).

But for them to have free access to the yard, I need the back door open! So far I've tried:

-Shoulder barging (ouch!)
-Run up & full body launch at door (reeeeally ouch!)
-Persistant nudging
-Shovel in the gap & try to lever it open
-Electric tape through the gap & tied to handle & try to pull open from the other side
-Spraying WD-40 into the gap

Now I've run out of ideas. The door is free at the top, but stuck at the bottom. There's no vehicle access.

Helllllp :(:(:(

No OH :( (well, not really :(, but I suppose it would be useful for these situations!). And a tractor couldn't get round the back, as it's fenced in (permanent like).

The hinges are mahoosive, I don't think I could take them off. The mallet (or maybe a sledgehammer?) idea is good though. Work has a sledgehammer I could borrow... Hope it doesn't destroy the door...

Do you have a small pony by any chance? If anyone can figure out how to get it open, it'd probably be them! :p

Being more serious though, is there any sort of a gap at the bottom of the door? If there is, try wedge something in there to raise it (maybe that's what you tried with the shovel?)

Lol! Sadly no pony. I did briefly consider hooking the 4yo up to it and flapping a pastic bag to make him go, but thought that probably wasn't the best idea :p.

There's no gap at all at the bottom, though. There's a gap at the top, and I tried to get the shovel in & wiggle it down, but no dice.

Gently gently with a crowbar? Working from the top to the bottom sounds as wood has swollen with all this rain. Once open(fingescrossed) a odd job man to take a small amount off the door.

Tow rope tied to door....then to nice big 4x4.
Failing that.....chainsaw. Use it to chop out the annoyingly stuck bit.
Both probably better done by someone competent (not saying you are not, but most men seem to commit to these kinds of things better than we do!)

I think it has dropped on its hinges. It's always needed a good shove to get closed or open, though. Bah humbug. If I could just get it open it can stay open!

Don't think a crowbar will be much more successful than the spade... the door's so thick it won't go all the way under, and it won't fit under the bottom at all. Plus to get to the unstuck part I have to climb, and balance rather precariously :|.

I'll try the sledgehammer - stupid door had better watch out!

I thought about the tow rope, but because of the fence line (and the mud at the entrance of the field) I'm pretty sure that's a no go.

The chainsaw sounds like fun (in a terrifying sort of way). Farmer round the corner has one, so if Mr Sledgehammer fails, I'll sound him out :D.

Result!! Sledgehammer did the trick :D.

Unfortunately I had to shut the door again quick, as we've had about a year's worth of rain last night/this morning and the yard flooded through the back door :(. Bah.

If you can lift it off it's hinges and put on some washers to raise it up the hinges that might fix it look very carefully and see if the hinges are moved in the wall or post and have dropped forward if so you need to fix that as no amount of shaving the bottom of the door will help.
