My little mare had a bit of a cough ( bright no temperature ) so I did all the usual things and a dollop of black treacle on the back of her tongue. I also put a small spoonfull in the bottom of her feedbowl, big mistake ! she loves it. I am now going to have to think of a really smelly tasty herb to take her mind off treacle, any ideas :-) a chestnut mare, I love her

some of you will have seen my post about treacle, happy to say mare is not coughing any more, but, she managed to sneak ito the feed room when my back was turned, a regular game- and tracked down the tin lid and has now got several patches of dried treacle on her neck and chest :-) and will it wash off. not a chace, I cant clip it off because her coat is short and fine, any one know of a solvent. stop laughing :-)

It doesnt exactly stop them coughing but it does sooth the throat, stick a lump of a wooden spoon and get it on the back of the tongue and it slowly trickles down the throat much the same as we suck throat/cough sweets.

Our old welshie used to love the old cough electuary paste. It smelled lovely and we would feed it to him on a spoon. He used to suck the spoon for ages to get every bit off.
