Further to my post the other day regarding having stud holes put in for my mare, I've realised I'm probably going to need a stud girth which no doubt will be a complete nightmare finding! Just looking through pictures and although we don't jump big in some photos she's almost touching that area and to be honest I don't want to risk.

She's currently in a stubben string girth which I also put a lambskin cover over but I'm think just adding a guard to that probably wont work!

In the past when I have tried leather girths they seem too "slippy" and I feel like it makes my saddle unstable. If I go for a non elasticated girth I cant do it up on her but is too elasticated then again not a good idea on a rounder horse. Ideally something really soft with some give in it but not too much.

I feel like this is going to be impossible to find but I cannot be the only person with a rounder horse that needed a stud guard!

Not much help, but I have an evison equine stud girth and it is lovely. Really soft and elasticated, but not too stretchy, I was lucky enough to get it 1/2 price. My girl is not very round though. I do use an acavallo anti slip gel under my saddle which I love, I use it for padding, but my saddle never moves either.

Both Norton and prestige do a stud girth lined with neoprene which is grippy. I have no experience of either, but they cover either end of the price scale! I have a neoprene lined normal girth which I like and was good on my last horse whose saddle used to slip back.

Depends on your budget, but I use the Stubben Equi-soft stud girth on my round mare.

It is brilliant, it rally wraps around them as it is in three parts, so the piece under there tummy is very stable.

I wish I had £340 to spend! I have looked at that one before, its very unusual looking! If I cant find one cheaper than that then I might have to try it!

Sheeny i think you'd be surprised with the stability of a stud girth even just a normalise will be more stable then a standard girth. See if you can borrow a few and give them a try?

You're probably right, I get very paranoid with things like this as it took us over a year to find a saddle that fitted her, then trying to find a girth that worked for us! I think I'm going to try the Norton Elastique Leather Girth as the elastic is doubled over so should have some give in it but not too much

Would love a nice expensive one but I'm not sure how often I will need it so rather see how we go and then invest in a nicer one!
