Hello,
i have never needed one with Millie due to her never picking her feet up high enough :P
but i have been wondering if i am going to need to get one for Digby as hes rather springy and is really picking his feet up, and think he will tuck up even more as he starts jumping larger. what do you think?
Also is it worth getting a whole stud girth or one of those guards you can slip over my normal girth.
It would have to be a short one, any recommendations would be good as well

Full stud girth definitely. The slidy on ones are crap. I use one as figure it does no harm, whereas not having one can do!! I use a comfort zone one which I love, but leather wise the amerigo ones are beautiful

oooo interesting i had a feeling the slidy ones would be cr*p

looks like i will have another expense then soon (just bought some new long boots

ops:)

I bought a synthetic one a while ago from robinsons, it wasnt that expensive. About £20 i think. Its not that great but i guess it does the job, only used it a couple of times. Only issue i really had was that the dye ran when pony got sweaty. Not great on a white pony!
If your going to use it all the time may as well invest in a decent one, but i rarely needed mine so didnt see the point in spending a forture.

Ooh, what boots you brought? The Comfort zone ones are lovely and relatively cheap. More comfortable for the horse than some too I reckon

They dont flap like some of the leather ones

Just had a look and i dont think robinsons do them anymore.
I really like the comfort zone ones too, but my friends horse reacted really badly to comfort zone stuff. It has really sensitive skin and the honeycomb bits would leave really deep marks in her and pinch her skin. Never heard of it happen before to any other horse though! Id still use their stuff, her horse is VERY sensitive!!!

I have both a short slidy one and a leather short stud guard.

Neither flap and both are good. However my slide on is synthetic and reinforced made by hexa (I have a BN one going spare as weird shaped horse cannot use a stud guard due to girth ending up in the middle of his belly!!)

My leather one is an albion which is lovely, but not as stable as my stud guard and a pro choice girth (grippy combination!)

I have a John Whitaker one - really nice. Can't use it though as I own a fat moose horse.

Just make sure that the attachment for the martingale isn't a billett one, I don't think that they are that strong

I would get a full one as well. I have a slidey on one and its a pain & I often forget to put it on. I would really like one of the Comfort Zone ones as they look breathable and are lightweight.

Only problem with comfort zone is that people with fat horses and long girth straps discover they only go up to 22"

Mine were in a 32" but have slimmed to a trim 28".... I don't think I can get more fat off them now

I did talk to comfort zone about making a longer one, but all the could do was alter the long strap version, which wouldn't have been very good as not a dressage ending girth.

i've got a prestige stud girth, its lovely.! the leather is nice and soft and it has some kind of metal clip thingy to attach a martingale/breastplate too.. very sturdy looking.!

CostwoldSJ - your avatar is v funny.!!

yes there is sarah_jane but its not the right colour and its at 140 :O

i will just keep my eye out on ebay for now as cant afford one yet!

Ditto the Kirkland ones

I have 3 :grin love them

Trainer has 6, so she must love them!

They are fab quality!!

to the kirkland lovers!!! where can you buy them from? i searched them on the web and nothing came up.:-(

KatB- i think i read somewhere that goddy is sensitive in the girth area, do you find the comfort zone girth ok for sensitive neddies? i just thought that with it being made out partly of elastic, that it might rub or pinch, or am i waffling on about rubbish

This is slightly off-topic, but I have a stud grith that won't fit my horse!
It is 54", but the problem is that I have a bates momentum saddle and the holes start really high up on it, so the girth is too short to even attatch to the very first holes. I tried a girth extender thingy, but it looked a bit unsafe.
Can you get any larger sized girths?

yeah he is sensitive, he has very pink skin around his girth area, and hates being girthed up. he still hates beign girthed up with the comfort zone one,but it has never rubbed him or pinched, and he seems happy once it is on
smile.gif
The elastic is lower down around the bottom of the chest so is where it needs to be for their chest to expand when they brerath
smile.gif
I could do with one a couple of inches bigger though

Mine only just fits at the mo.

I had exactly the same problem, I wanted a long stud girth, but also with the quick click fastening for the martingale. Got this equipro one from here:

It's lovely soft leather (apparently it's very similar to Prestige but a lot cheaper) and Shadow took to it straight away. Goes up to 56 inch if that's any good?

What size is yours KatB?

I have one that is either a 52 0r 50 (hardly used) that is a bit big, want to swap, I need a 48.

Mine is a 50", could do with a 52", although he has lost some flab, got to try his again this weekend....but if is any good, let me know
tongue.gif
Mine is in pretty good condition

Thanks HHM, I'll measure my horse to see if it's worth trying a 56".

Think you may have a similar issue to me, Shadow is only a lightweight 16.1 but she has one hell of a chest on her....and with a short-flapped saddle bog-standard girths are simply not long enough for her
