How do you fill yours when you are not using them? We have been using cotton wool, but for one hole there is a gap at the back & it just goes out the other side.

if there's a gap it doesn't matter so much, it's only if the hole is hard against the hoof, and grit could get in, that it really matters i think.
i use cigarette filters soaked in WD40, much better than cotton wool, if you get the skinny ones you can fold them in half and they expand in the holes to fill them perfectly, and don't fall apart when you prise them out!

HP always manages to get a small stone that's just the right size to get stuck in the awkward hole if there is no plug.

Cigarette papers & WD40 sounds interesting - how on earth did you find that idea?

I dont fill mine, I fine it harder to get cotton wool out than mud! I just clean them out when I need them with a special screw driver thing thats a point rather than normal screw driver shaped - robbed from my dads tool box about 15 yrs ago!!!

haha, an old saddler told me it yonks ago. it's the little skinny Swan filters you want, they're foam cylinders about 3mm in diameter which squish perfectly into a stud hole. the fatter shorter ones don't work as well. i added the WD40 idea myself!

i cut little cubes of sponge about 1cm x 1cm, spray the hole out with WD40 and stuff the sponge in, pushing it right in with a nail.

it never falls out and is really easy to flick out at the event with a nail or pair of tweezers.

I use the cigarette filter/WD40 trick after an event, then give holes a good clean out the night before and put SupaStuds Travel Studs in.

These are flat squares (but with just enough depth of metal to get spanner around!) and they screw in/out like normal studs, so once you're at the venue, you just take them out and swap for whatever "real" studs you're planning on using. They're fab!

Heres another recommendation for slimline cigarette filters never had a problem with them and yes i fold them in half and usually use 2 in each stud hole.

try the pound shops i got three boxes for a quid yonks ago and I'm still using them.

so much cheaper than specially made plugs from tack shops !!
