When looking at stallions, does the attitude of the stallion owner/stud manager influence your decision? As in where you will spend your hard earned cash...... Just curious really, as it has influenced me in the past

yep!! no way i would send my mare anywhere regardless off the stallion if they didnt treat her right or treated the mares as convayer belts! at the end of the day as you said your spending a lot of hard earned money. read on another post someone was paying a fortune per week for their mare and the mares arent even checked every day! at least bracken is checked everyday feed and looked after so i have peace of mind.

ah but theres always those that put on fronts sadly........

I haven't head of studs doing this but I have heard rider/trainers that take horses for schooling that dont even ride then, never mind checking on them but charge a fortune to the owner. You never can trust whats being said unless you KNOW that person well. Or perhaps I'm not trusting enough........

no i'm not to trusting with bracken either after with all shes been through so i have done spot checks!! have phoned once then gone up the other times i just 'arrived' and checked! as for the schoolin part after seein what a so called trainer did with my friends horse (never did any work with him unless she had phoned to say she was coming down then he was worked) would only go by word of mouth and proof i.e seeing someones horse after its been to the trainer

We sent our mares to a stud 100's of miles away, the bill realised £2500, in 1975, a lot of money.

We learned later from a groom we met our mares were turned out and never saw the stallion...
Which is why there were so few foals by him they wanted the money and exclusivity the mares returned thin, and withdrawn, that was it for us I bourght my own stallion and bred from then on.. I am paranoid about our visiting mares I make sure they are Ok checking cuddling as if my own.. and then I hate to see them go.. when they have settled so well in the herd.. our stallion is very welcoming and quiet the mares adore him..which makes breeding for top quality in rare breeds even more worth while...more people need to help the Highland Pony numbers but please only top quality....there is already plenty of rubbish about....
