How many of you have used your student loan to fund horses in some way, shape or form?
Am contemplating purchasing an easy buy and sell in the summer(4months)...

Me, I'll regret it when I have to pay it back though!!

Sadly I dont do projects very well- they inevitably end up staying with me for one reason or another.

Me - though just paid it off as a lump sum. Bought Oscar with it as I knew I was getting an inheritance that would cover the loan & interest easily.

Me! Am SO going to regret it though

Same?! In my first year I worked though so had enough left over to buy a 2nd hand saddle but thats it. In my 2nd and 3rd year it all went on rent...how on earth do people manage to buy horses too?!

yeah, it funded my competing through 5yrs at uni. my parents paid my rent and tuition fees so i spent the loan on food, books, petrol and then my horse!

QR - I live at home in term & with my OH in the hols, no rent. Plus I work as a lab tech. to cover living costs & fund the horses.

Student Loans are brilliant, like the January one paid for mine and the horses BE fees!!! u don't need to eat and a part time job pays the entries and then I've ran outta time to do work. oops!!

Yep, I lived like a pauper while my horse got everything! Then found out that Government would pay back loans if you train to be a teacher, so yeah! they paid my livery bills. Also got a 'golden handshake' when i qualified and yes bought a horse with it.

excellent, so I'm not the only stupid one! Luckily my 'rents are happy to fund most things, and if the project failed miserably could back me up but if it was a success should hopefully make money and student loan back.
We'll see, it woul dhave to be a sure thing near enough as I dont want to squander money.
thanks for the replies

I have been rather naughty and been using my bursary to fund Tyler. Fortunately my dad helps out with livery plus he paid for Tyler but if the funding agency ever want to know what my bursary has been spent on it certainly wouldn't be anything to contribute to my education :S

Well my student loan paid for my ongoing livery/living costs for my horse whilst I was at university, and I had no choice as it was the only source of income that I had (apart from a student part-time job). BUT, I wouldn't have done it if there had been an alternative (horse unsellable due to injury).

Seriously, I wouldn't get in debt for a horse, they're too breakable!! And a student loan seems like a great idea at the time, but believe me, when it comes to paying it back, it doesn't seem quite so fun.

I'm a mature student, my loan has bought the youngster, a trailer and pays for most of my daughters comps and lessons. God, what would i spend that money on otherwise?

Try not and use my student loan for horses - esp this year as am on placement and have no excuse! Used my loan a little bit last year to pay for BE stuff as only had a job in xmas hols and over cheltenham race week (well fun!) but after seeing the interest rates are over 4% at the moment it makes its all mounting up!
