Student protest in london today

Tinkerbee the outdoor life is much healthier and see how much free fruit you can eat, save you cooking:p:p:p. But there nowt wrong in cleaning loos or anything else,And hard work never killed anyone. I have more respect for a person who works their through things than one who expects it as their due.

Heck, even in this weather I'd take an outdoors job, but no one wants me *wipes away tears* :D

As long as it's not strawberry picking, that was hell...

It was bad enough when i was at uni and I was the last year without top up fees, and I got my fees paid for by my lea, i still ended up with £13,800 debt which I have paid £27 on yet made £89 in interest lol

The thins is now degree means nothing, because everybody has one it has no advantage in a most jobs an employer would rather have someone with hands on experience, Having a degree got me nowhere the job im in I could of got in off alevels, the only advantage was that id at least used or done the theory of the equipment i know use

echo bravo my daughter gets her loans which she will pay back when earning but other than that she will not accept help from me or her father - she works damn hard for recuitment company which she as worked for for 3 yrs in holidays - our students are our tomorrow - yes i agree for fees which they pay back but uncapped - pooriest famillies will be helped the rich are laughing but the middle bracket again will suffer - where will our future doctors/ vets /teachers be - my daughter is so passionate about hazard mangement earthqukes etc life saving?

Hmmm...quite the stereotype coming though here, that we're all lazy, middle class and paid for by parents. Most people I know are working class, parents didn't go to uni due to no opportunity (for most they couldn't afford it, government took their opportunity then as well) and are paying for everything themselves too. And most have jobs, apart from people doing medicine and similar due to MASSIVE work load.

While i think that link was funny, it is a bit offensive...

I have friends who were in that protest. They are NOT "lazy, pretentious, self-absorbed protesters", they are young people who, like me, are terrified of what will happen to our futures and wanted to take a stand... None of them were smashing windows, or abusing police!

Welcome to the university of life ,lesson one, What happens when you have a government for 13 years ,giving away every penny we earn ,to any undeserving cause that comes along.Answer, the next generation pays for it!

That's why they did quantitative easing - printing more money. Winston Churchill put their approach very well: "For a nation to try to tax itself into prosperity is like a man standing in a bucket trying to lift himself up by the handle."

how many students dont ever repay the loans?, maes this govt look harsh but things need to be sorted as bankrupt under labour.

My daughter went....glad she is back in one piece - my eldest son reminded me tonight that he went aged 12 to the London pro-hunting demo several years ago, where the police started a riot........Since when have student demos been peaceable - not condoning violence - but these are testing times...........

No the police in general didnt start the "riot" but the TSG did, acting on orders .There were some very good old fashioned coppers there ,like the one I met on westminster Bridge, One policeman kept order with several hundred protestors by simply asking them to stay put and saying that if he had any news they would be the first to know. Top man ,that officer!

To be quite frank, I am crapping myself at the thought of all this!

Whichever way i look, i will seriously be in debt.

I dont know WHAT i want to do at uni now, whereas i knew before...

My college friends are stuck in there... I only know of two who have got out so far.

Apparently they were kettling the protesters, till it all calms down.

Lets hope everyone gets out peacefully. :(

My niece didn't get a place at her chosen 6th form due to her GCSE in that subject being incorrectly marked - predicted A got D and she could see that they'd put her down as zero marks for modules she didn't take -they appealled and it was remarked but of course she had no place. Consequently she's decided to be a plumber instead, figuring everyone will be full of degrees and no practical skills thus she'll always have work.

My money would be on the troublemakers being well-heeled ex-public school boys. Its funny how many "anti-capitalist anarchists" are the children of bankers, corporate lawyers, etc. and were sent to public schools by their parents. Its their rebellious stage. Ahh bless!

.
Yes very true and these same people become "the guilty rich" in later life. Living in wealth and privlege with enough money to insulate them totaly from reality they bang on about the poor donate to the labour party etc, I think the name is champagne socialist,IE you do as say not as I do what's yours is mine and whats mine's my own,and knowing what's right for everyone else.... claim the moral high ground but wouldn't help anyone but themselves...

The President of the London University Union came across appallingly on Breakfast news this morning. Clearly didn't have a clue about the economics of it, couldn't answer why students felt throwing missiles was an issue, thought breaking windows was a minimal cost (what about the price of policing etc) and couldn't answer any of the questions with any intelligence.

The guy from the NUS was far more eloquent. He's on the side of the students but recognises this kind of violent carry on is not the answer.

The worst thing is that when they attacked the Tory Party Headquarters, they actually attacked many of the offices in the building who aren't Tories!! The poor things were barricaded in their offices!
