Lately I've been hearing a lot about people using studs to jump in indoor arenas or outdoor arenas with sand flooring. I'e heard it really helps, especially when the fences are higher and with greater competition as any small fault matters.

What do you all think? And, as I'm thinking on trying this out myself, what kind of studs to use and how many to use in what shoes? Any advice would be really appreciated as I've looked all over the internet and not found much info.

I never have although I can see it may be of help on a poor surface. If the surface is good there should be no need. If you are using studs I would go for some medium length rounded edge ones and put two in per shoe.

Personally I would never attempt to jump indoors with studs. The horse should be balanced and well schooled enough not to ahve to have studs to jump on a surface OR on grass (though I do put them in to go XC and outdoors showjumping if the ground is iffy). IMO it's just teaching the horse the wrong thing.

All horse are different. Some are really safe on there feet and others like my mare tends to slip. If your horse needs studs then use them! Two in each foot and not just one!
