Sorry if this is the most stupidist question, I’ve never used studs before and got them put in my pony’s shoes last month and ended up never using them due to hard ground.
Anyway, pony got new shoes today went to try put studs in for practice, they don’t fit ! Am I doing something wrong, it’s almost as if the stud is too big for the stud hole? Should i force it in what if I can’t get it out 🤣
I just presumed studs were a 1 size fits all, am I wrong.
Sorry for the stupid question but I am so confused !!!!

There are skinny studs occasionally but they’re hard to find so I doubt your farrier used that- do the tops need tapping? Did you plug the holes?

The holes are plugged now but weren't when I was trying to put studs in. I have just read online that on used shoes the hole can be smaller when put back on? Is that the reason you should tap them first?

That and the top of the holes get a pounding with use, plus any dirt at all will make it tricky to get the stud in.

I tried to tap them tonight and the tap doesn’t fit in the hole, could get it slightly in one shoe but not in any of the others. The studs seem too big for the hole that’s there, they will catch on one side of the hole but not the other 🤯
They are plugged also so no dirt they are completely clean.
