I have a 27 year old mare who sometimes stumbles badly and goes down on her knees. Doesn't happen often and only ever at walk. She is healthy and active and shod every six weeks. I will be speaking to our farrier tomorrow but in th e meantiime I wondered about people's experience with natural balance shoes?

You might be wise to invest in a pair of Westropp Knee/Brushing boots. They are brilliant and have saved my horse a few times from cutting his knees open. They cost about £35 but last for ages, easy to fit and comfortable. My horse does have natural balance shoes and he goes well in them. Rolled toes are worth thinking about too. Given your horse's age I think it is probably just a case of joints not working as they used to. My horse is 26 and is hacked out 5 days per week. His stumbling has worsened with age but I just keep his reins short and keep him forward to the bit - no slouching!
