I've arranged to hack out with a member of another forum at the weekend and now I'm absolutely bricking myself!
Our horses have never met and Fudge can be a little silly with new horses, I can't decide where to take her and what if she wants to canter and gallop at every oppotunity? (I don't as my horse isn't fit enough and I'm only brave enough to canter uphill when hacking

Somebody tell me to get a grip please

I'm quite a worrier when it comes to horses and safety so I'm probably not the best person to say 'get a grip'! I would say though do be careful if they haven't met that you don't get too close initially as it puts a bit of a crimp on the day if either horse or rider ends up with a kick! You never really know how horses will take to each other and I've seen some hairy moments and near misses. You can always explain that you like to take it steady with your horse (why not? you'd be the one with the vets bill) and ask her not to trot on or bomb off without telling you first. She's probably just as nervous anyway.

Have fun - but be safe!

Get a grip! Don't worry and have fun! I asume that you're friends if you're meeting up? So she should respect you asking her not to gallop off, anyway she may be feeling the same as you. Just enjoy your hack, you'll probably have a nice chat at a walk, a few trots here and there and a nice canter up some slopes. When cantering, make sure you decide who's horse will be best at the front so they don't turn it into a race. You'll have a fab time and you'll need to put up a post with how it went!

(sorry it's a bit rambly!)

So why are you nervous about cantering and the odd gallop?

I say you have to break out of your comfort zone now and again!

I used to be like that when taking Athena out with horses she's never been out with before, but it all changed when I went on a charity ride in November where there were around 70 different horses!! I was bricking myself but Athena was a dream. Now when hacking out with strange horses I just tend to take it all in my stride!

I've sure you'll have a fab time xx
