I've been using battery and solar powered energisers for years but when we move I'm upgrading to mains.

So, where does the earth stake go?! I can run the energiser from the tack room, so I'll need lead out cable to attach it to the fence. Is it the same for the stake then? I'm guessing it has to be...

While we are on the subject, does lead out cable have much impact on the efficency of the fence? (I'd be looking at running one with plenty of spare capacity for the length of fencing.)

I have recently set up a main energiser and the requirements for the cable were in the energiser's instruction manual. It said it needed a high voltage cable. I bought one with a double coating so it can be buried underground directly.

Whatever cable you use, to make it safer and protect it by threading it through a thick polypropylene pipe laying on the ground or shallow buried, to go from tack room to the fence connection point.
It’s possible for the cable sheath to get brittle from UV (most standard indoor cables arent necessarily UV protective sheathing) and for it to get worn by continuous foot/wheelbarrow traffic.
