My friends and I were so lucky yesterday evening.

Some stupid man wanting to get straight over a main road onto the sideroad we were waiting to turn right from just would not wait, thought he saw a gap between two cars coming up the main road (on our side) that just wasn't there and floored it. Needless to say, he got it wrong, smashed into the first car and sent both of them flying toward us waiting patiently at the junction.

The bang terrifed both horses who fled in panic - mine turned back and headed the way we had come and my friends took off into the main road.

Luckily neither of us or the horses where hurt, which is a miracle in itself because both cars were less than a couple of meters from us at impact and could have killed both horses no problem. Just hows how fast our boys reacted to get out of the way and I'm chuffed we both stayed on when it all happened so fast.

Took them for a wander round the block this evening - my friends horse is ok but mine's really scared of the traffic and any junctions or driveways we come to. I feel really bad for him but all I can do now is stick at it until he gets his confidence back :(
 
If I was a spooky horse who is always being told by my rider to stop Spooking I would now be saying to you SEEEEEEEEEEEEE Spooking pays off mum!!

Wow lucky escape!!!!!! Glad you are all fine, and I am sure your horsey will get his confidence back soon!

The 4 yr old I was riding is a dream with tractors etc until a forage harvester (the bottom of the trailor was higher than my saddle) squeezed past us bouncing along, even tho I asked him to stop, horse had a hissy fit and tried to run backwards under it, with alot of shouting and firm riding from me he listened and cantered on the spot, was a really close call, but now 6mths on hes fab again with tractors, so don't worry too much!

Were all the drivers ok? xx
 
Stupid mans wife was battering him round the head in the car with a magzine yelling "You stupid *******ing man" and proceeded to yell at him once they'd got out. They were fine!! He never even apologised to anybody for causing the accident or the scare in our case :eek:

The woman he hit was taken away in a neck brace and spinal board but just has severe whiplash. Funnily enough she text my friend and I today saying she can't imagine how frightening it must have been for us and the horses and she hopes we're all ok. Bless her, it wasn't even her fault!

Normal Police in a car were ****e. Waste of time. Road Traffic cop got on the scene in his big beastie Road Traffic Car Volvo - amazing man. When there's so much confusion and so many statements going on what an amazing person not get exasperated with everybody!!

Hi, you poor things that must have been so frightening for you! I use Bach Flower Rescue Remedy on my horses...and me if they have a shock. It seems to calm them down quite a bit. You can get it from chemists or health food shops.

They were both really shaken up and are both only young (mine is 3yrs - ex racehorse so already broken - and other is 5yrs). Mine calmed down as soon as i'd got off - luckily he loves having just above his eyes rubbed; it makes him sleepy!! So I rubbed his face for a bit until he'd chilled out. My friends horse was going beserk. He obviously wears his distress on his sleeve but was pretty much his usual self out today so maybe once its done and over with, he's good and my horse is more of a slow burner of worry. All I do once a week is potter around to give him something to do and think about. Certainly gave him something to think about yesterday! He's normally so so so so docile you have to really harrass him to get a good walk and you need to sweat for a trot!!

Is the Rescue Remedy a liquid or is like garlic flakes or something and you just add to a dinner?

rescue remedy is a liquid. You either put 10 drops (comes with a pipette) in a bucket of water or on your hand to lick off.

ETA: what a stupid man but at least his wife gave him a good wallop! How lovely of the other driver to see if you were ok
 
time and confident handling - soft understanding firm but kind works wonders and sounds like hes got that - glad you both ok - awful but a learning curve for your man with a good mum - happy hacking for future xxxxx
