I feel such a fool, went for a hack Tuesday morning before work, it was lovely and quiet hardly any cars, just bliss, got back home dismounted, same as normal and went ouch, didnt think too much of it, untacked put out and sorted other 8 shetlands etc etc. Got home took boot off ouch, made cup tea sat down for 15 mins got up ouch ouch, anyway finally went to Dr today after hobbling around and girls at work saying you should get it checked out. Turns out I have fractured a bone in my foot from just dismounting, good excuse to get father to build me my proper mounting/dismounting block though.

Anybody else had silly injuries from doing something so minor?

Oh my god!.. never had anything that extreme.. except came home from the stables last night, complained to my dad about being slightly deaf in my right ear.. he looked inside (thank god i have a dad who's a doc!) and it turns out i burst my ear drum, and there was a lot of fluid hanging round in my ear! also managed to get a hairline fracture to my collar bone after a pony I was leading dragged me to the field and into the fence.. xx

I think I might have a contender for the most random injury!!!!!! Whilst mucking out my horse's stable I slipped on some wet rubber matting, went straight over backwards, hitting my head on the wall as I went landing with my head in my horse's water bucket! The problem was because I had been knocked out I was drowning in the water bucket! Someone found my horse wandering round the yard, went to return her to her stable and found me. I woke up in hospital, And was told I had very nearly drowned! I have no recollection of the event, but blood stains from where I had cracked my head took a long time to scrub off the wall! Has anyone else nearly drowned whilst mucking out??????????

Sorry hadnt realised a similar post had been done.

I dont feel so silly after reading through some of the other posts. lol

The one thing I dont get is how are you supposed to rest your foot when you have 1 horse, 8 shetlands and 12 sheep to care for and not a lot of help!!!

I was told to use crutches but refused could actually see me falling over using them and damaging another part of me, plus wouldnt be much help when sorting all the animals out.

I don't feel quite so bad about spraining my ankle putting the chickens to bed now ~ (perhaps I won't mention the contribution of the red wine at this point)

dont apologise casanova - thought you might like to read it thats all.
its not nice having to cope without help. ive had swine flu the last week and mums had to do the horses, thank god they live out

charlimouse - wow, glad someone found you, its not worth thinking what wouldve happened. glad youre alright though and you were admitted to hospital - scary these horses arent they - think im going to get a hamster

I dislocated my finger by getting it caught in his mane going over a jump!

And broke my toe mounting my horse. He wouldn't stand still by mounting block and spun round so I went to get on from floor, I ended up jumping a bit too enthusiasticly, went right over the top and hit my foot on the mounting block on the way down!

OMG about the drowning one! Mind you, I got chucked off once and fainted with the pain, came round with a nose bleed & the reins round my neck

I also nearly got hanged out hunting, we were going through a jungly wood and an evil vine was hanging me, I had started to see stars as the horse kept going & I was being dragged by the neck off the saddle! I was just pondering the write up in H&H when the vine snapped!! Ooh and I got a massive green '70's comedy hand' from the horse mashing said hand against the trailer breech bar when reversing out. I was well hard though and had a days hunting with it

Well i never got injured but a freak accident all the same. I was mounting my 18hh horse, from a block, and as i put my leg over his back and he swished his tall which then got caught on my spur he panicked and bolted down the ménage and I bailed off before he made the turn at the top of the ménage (bearing in mind i was only half on).

This is such a freak accident you can imagine my surprise when it happened again exactly the same.
