Stupid Mistakes and Confessions!

Decided that my Stallion needed more socialising and a bit of a practice for the next days show up at the riding clubs field.

My friend, who is a well known Scottish Dressage rider, and whos father in law owns the riding clubs field, said 'I'll bring down **insert her best horses name here** so he can get used to working alongside mares and **someone else** will bring down little gelding'

all was fine, Lumi was working beautifully, passing the mare and gelding and not giving a toss... popping over the little fences....

End of session and we're all walking round. The words 'Gosh he's been so well behaved...' weren't even out my friends mouth before he'd reared up, dumped me, and went chasing after her Star Mare, frightening the bejesus out of her!.

All I could think is 'OMG, that's thousands of pounds worth of dressage horse and my andalucian is trying to hump it... with a rider on'

Thing is he knew he should be excited, but didn't know what to do so he was kinda just doing the most beautiful piaffe / passage / mini rears in front of her, she was just petrified!

Caught naughty horny horse, got back on and set him off to work again for his sins, whilst poor friend continued to sit on her mare who was producing the best piaffe / passage I'd ever seen her do without being asked.... and it's her favourite party trick!

I felt totally sick later as it was rather silly of me and we could have been hurt. I'm keeping rider and horses name secret so it isn't public knowledge which horse was basically raped to save her blushes, although I'm sure the Scottish folk will probably be able to guess :)

I'm another that went to a show without my hat - doh!!!
When I first learnt to tack clean I absolutely soaked someone's really expensive leather saddle (I didnt squeeze the sponge enough!) luckily it dried out & was none the worse for its "soaking" but I felt so guilty afterwards :o

Not as good as most of these but I once bought a very expensive posh stable rug from ebay. When it arrived I couldn't understand why it wouldn't fit, at all. Turned out I had bought a 60" rug and not a 6'. Oh dear.

Another was the time I went to catch the boy, put his headcollar and leadrope on over the fence and the went to undo the electric gate. For some reason it was tighter than usual so I gave it a good tug.. it came undone and then the spring twanged hard, resulting in the handle catching in the side of my pocket. There was horsey and me doing a wierd electric dance either side of the fence as it constanly zapped us. He obviously had more sense than me as he eventually pulled away and waited while I sorted it out (still getting zapped as I tried to remove it from pocket!)

I've turned out someone elses horse in their stable rug but got noticed before he entered the field.
I've gone off on a hack with my hat once
I've got on without tightening up the girth so the saddle has slipped and I've ended up on my back.
The other day I left Nadia's headcollar and lead rope on hanging. I think I was faffing about with the mini shettie and just didn't think.
Probably loads more but can't think of anything else.

I ride regulary in a large local estate that is owned by a very wealthy Arab, it's a lovely place to ride with well marked bridle paths.
One of the paths I use, seems to only be used by me as I've never met anybody there, seen poo or hoof prints, so I often stop in the wood for a quiet pee.
Unfortunately I found out this weekend that the park is covered in hidden cameras, so the security guys can track you as you enter & all the way through until you leave.
I've seen several cameras but it clearly I haven't seen them all, so my private peeing place isn't so private after all!!
I won't be peeing in that wood again.

Brilliant :D:D

Went to visit my poorly horse at the vet Hospital. Was desperate for a wee and no-one was around, door locked.

Yes, you can guess :p

Peed in stable. Didn't even think of CCTV. *BLUSH*

LOL! I used to work at a yard with cctv in the stables - when I found out, I spent ages wondering if I'd done anything I shouldn't have!

I went to a show with an employer and her two horses. We were late as usual so she said to get them out while she went and got the numbers. I got horse A down the ramp and tied him up. Got horse B out and horse A had disappeared! I put horse B back in the lorry and then spent ages running round the lorry park, every so often seeing a glimpse of chestnut and royal blue (his very expensive new 'show' rug) galloping up and down the lines, upsetting everyone else. I eventually ran down the end of one line and found him rolling in a large patch of mud. He was totally covered in brown slime and his rug certainly no longer looked new. He'd even managed to rub some of his plaits out as well. I was not very popular that day.

When I worked at a big RS/livery yard, there was one 'assisted DIY' horse who was right round the back out of sight and I once forgot all about turning her out. Poor horse was left in all night. I realised when I got into work and had a mad panic as owner was VERY stroppy, VERY critical, scarey lady. I legged it across the field with the horse before she arrived for the morning and realised what I'd done. Poor mare looked most confused to be brought back in by her owner only 20mins later and owner commented on how clean she was! I felt terrible but was far too scared of owner (and boss) to own up.

The worst one though was forgetting to check properly if all the ponies had been untacked at the end of the last lesson one Saturday winter night. Lights had gone in the stables (again) and I looked over all the doors in the dark but didn't notice 'Charlie' still had his saddle on - he was renowned for taking his own bridle off which is why he didn't have that on. I had Sunday off as there was a show and no lessons. Came in Monday morning and the pony STILL had his saddle on. Turned out that the girl who covered Sunday mucking out had assumed he was being used in the show which is why he was tacked up. None of the regular staff were in and the boss never really bothered with night checks or anything. Poor little bugger had been stood in his saddle since Saturday afternoon :(. Never did forgive myself for that one.

Had also made the classic 'letting go of valuable racehorse when it p*sses off on the lunge right in front of the boss' type error and the 'sitting down quickly on the cold backed horse and immediately being bucked off in front of boss' error. Happy days!
