Stupid People!!! What would you do?

Some friends of mine have 2 horses. One Sec D about 18 years old and an elderly Belgian Warmblood about 25 years old. They share a field with some 'know-it-alls' who are constantly giving advice even when its not needed, and making pointless comments like "i would take his rug off if i were you, it's going to be warm today" AS my friend is removing the rug, making said friends feel a bit useless.

Anyway, they havent been at this field very long, but the other horse owners know that the elderly horse suffers from colic easily if suddenly given large amounts of food/grass. There is a small paddock full of long grass which is almost as tall as me (im not joking, i stood next to it) and these other horse owners put this elderly horse into this paddock WITHOUT asking or telling his owners. Friends go down the field today, to find their poor oldie laid on the floor with colic :( They rang the vets straight away and questioned why their horse had been moved without their consent. The excuse was "youre not looking after him properly" :confused: now i saw this horse the other day, hes looking well for his age, hes in a field opposite his owners house and he gets fed twice a day, has a tub in the middle of the field constantly FULL with hay, and has a happy retirement life. Yet these people feel the need to put a horse which they KNOW suffers with colic into a field with long grass without asking or telling the owners? Vets also said that if they had waited any longer to call them, he wouldve died :(

Are they right to be annoyed? ANGRY?? They almost killed their horse and havent even said sorry or 'we were wrong' :mad: What would you do?
 
They need to move and quickly. Rather that than risk these muppets killing their horses.

Angry wouldn't even begin to describe how I'd feel if someone pulled a stunt like that with our horses. I'd be gunning for them quite honestly.
 
Go straight to them & ask all of them for their full addresses - and ask sweetly as to which one of them is footing the totally un-necessary veterinary bill for the problem that THEY caused to the horse......

Then, warn them that if they persist in interfereing with other peoples livestock/property that they will be held liable for any other expenses incurred in the future.........
 
Just got a text from my friend

"my mum got a text this morning saying they had moved him, taken his rug off and fed him! when my mum got there he was lying colic and they were blaming her for it saying he got colic because she had changed his food, but he has only had one scoop of it!!"

Im not sure how long it took her to get to the field, im assuming it was straight after work. Still, thats NO excuse for interfering :mad: they had already been fed that morning, plus given another feed by the stupid people and put out into the long grass. Ive told them to give them the vet bill because theres just no excuse for their idiotic actions :(
 
Give them the bill! Cheeky sods. I would be absolutely fuming and would not be polite to them.
Get the vets to bill them direct? not sure they would do it but may be worth a phonecall since they called them out to an animal they had moved without consent so should be made responsible for their actions.
I know its highly unlikely they will cough the money but i would sure as hell push hard to get some money off them.
 
Forget the bull **** about the bill, if it had been my horse i'd knock the bitch from one end of the field to another.

I would say, perhaps if ur friend had stood up for themselves initially, this may not have happened.
 
I would be fumming..give them the vet bill when it comes..saying you caused this , you pay for it. ( they wont,still might make them think twice next time ) They knew horse prone to colic. stupid.
 
Give then the vet bill, and tell them in future if they have a problem with how they are looked after to call the RSPCA to deal with it.

Threaten legal action on causing unnessary suffering to an animal.

If that doesn't work smack the bi***

Give them such an almighty rocket and I mean on and on and on and on and every time you see them going on and on and on.
Drive it home to them that they are muppets.
If they so much as look at the horse go on and on and on.
Make THEM move their horses.
 
what makes it worse, is their horses are OBESE!! im not just talking about a little chubby, i mean so fat they can hardly walk. one keeps getting lami, another has a shoulder injury, and the other bucks when ridden so none of them are getting excercised so are all getting HUGE!!!! :(

I have to say I'd be likely to flatten her too! And possibly seek legal advice, that poor pony could easily have been killed by these peoples stupidity. If they thought the pony was being treated badly, why didn't they speak to his owners?! I hope he makes a full recovery.

So its them who don't have a clue what they are doing, idiots, I would have gone mental on them
 
I agree with most that has been said...

Your friend needs to make it clear that these are her horses and unless she asks for help they are not to be touch in writing, letters out to anyone else who shares the land.

Find out exactly who moved her horse into the paddock and write a formal letter stating that due to the concesquences of their unauthorised actions, 'Horse's name' suffered a painful bout of colic which required immediate treatment and you hold them liable. Ask the vet for a written account of why the horse became ill, photocopy this and attach both the statement and vet bill to the letter, then post it recorded delivery.

I would also look to move fields, mainly due to the comeback that may occur depending on these people, plus I woud refuse to speak to them again, unless they have children that visit the fields, in which case do not speak to the adults but ply the children with as much chocolate, sugary drinks and sweets that they can!

Personally I would seek some legal advice if the person in question has assets that could be used to pay for the vet bill, if deemed that they have enough to cover the costs I suspect a small claims court would be a good option. If they are not likely to be able to cover the vet bill but have their horse insured then that could be an option to look into, otherwise I am afraid it may be best to cut her losses for the vet and move out ASAP :(

Sad, sad world we live in sometimes when people believe they have the right to interfere...
