Stupid Q - deep puddle & diesel lorry?

I park my lorry in the barn and the track to it is seriously flooded at the moment, about 8 - 9 " deep (almost to the top of my wellies) for about 40 yards. I have a dressage comp on Weds and there seems to be no end to the rain. Can I /should I drive my lorry through this to go out and then to re-park it after the comp or will something expensive happen to it if water gets into the exhaust? I know nothing about motors of any type apart from "it goes", "it's stopped", "it's expensive!" Any advice please?

Actually thinking about it, I've driven my car through water that deep (that really was pushing my luck)!!! 1st gear, take it slow, no worries!!!

Thanks folks....who knows where the air intake is? (not me anyway! Dumb - yes) but the exhaust pipe "might" be under/close to the water...but that would be venting out not in, wouldn't it? I shall take your advice and take it slow and steady (and cross my fingers!) Thanks

Only danger if the exhaust pipe is under the water level, is if you stall the lorry, then apparently water can be back syphoned up it (or so I was unreliably informed by the prat who wrote off the works van, mind you the 'puddle' was about 3ft deep and hit at speed, so who know if it went in the air intake or if he was right

). I believe the air intake is normally on top of the engine, near the big round air filter thingy.........see clueless when it comes down to it!!!

Find out where your air intake is as it is really important when driving through water (I know that bit!)

Apparently "you look for the biggest lump of plastic that leads into where the fuel goes into! Then look at how low it is at the end that sucks the air in. Thats the depth of water you can go through." Quote my OH (He does know about cars)!

This would make no sense to me either!!!

You should be fine going through the water but be careful if the exhaust pipe goes under water. If there is any danger of this happening then when you drive it maintain high revs & do not blip the throttle. If the engine revs drop there is a danger that the engine will suck the water up the exhaust pipe & into the engine.......then you are talking major money!

You should be alright if you take it steady & over rev as you go through the water...Good Luck

Thank you again all, I shall look carefully for my air intake and keep the revs up (and hope for a heatwave before Wedsnesday....then again, can't expect a miracle!)
