I am now very confused!
What is a C1 licence and do you have to take a test to drive up to (but not including) 7.5t? or do you only have to take a test if you are young and passed test after 1997?
Very blonde and trying to understand!!

if you passed test before 1997, you should have C1 on your licence... i think.. if not, you have to take a test to drive over 3.5t up to 7.5... i THINK... this is the info the DVLA gave me the other day, then they started confusing me with 'provisional' licences... which they seem to send out willynilly... i dunno...

If you are only transporting your own horses you don't need it.

[/ QUOTE ]WHAT!!!!! I think you are confusing this (which is a catagory of vehicle on your driving license)with an Operators license (O license). Or even the Defra certificate of competence to transport horses.C! is the old heavy motor car catagory, and applies to vehicles betwean 3.5 and 7.5 tonnes gvw without a trailer.

As said, incorrect. You need to take another test to drive anything over 3.5T

Oh good grief!

Please, someone just tell me if hubby and me can drive a horsebox up to 7.5t on our licences got over 30 years ago?

This is what happens....everyone says something different and my poor old head can't cope!!!!

YES YOU CAN. If your license is pre 1997 issue, you have"grandfather rights"exempting you from having to take a separate test for the catagory C1. which is for vehicles above 3.5 tonnes and upto and including 7.5 tonnes. If you look at the paper half of your license it should include C1 in the list of vehicles you can drive.

Glad thats cleared up then.
