Stupid question alert: horse broke into feed room

So my pony broke into the feed room today and ate nearly 5 kg of Farriers Formula, I have maybe 1 kg left (maybe). I've tried Googling 'feeding too much Farriers Formula' without too much success. Will this harm him does anyone know? He seems his normal self, though obviously not interested in his normal feed tonight as he was stuffed. Any advice would be appreciated... Obviously I have no idea what time he broke in, I arrived just after 3 to find the door wide open and the tub on its side with some left on the floor but most of it gone!
 
I would withhold water for a few hours to reduce the risk of it swelling up in his stomach but allow some dampened hay, if all seems well last thing then give water and leave for the night, if any cause for concern call the vet obviously.
 
My horse once ate 10kg of dry speedibeet overnight then will asked for breakfast. He didn't miss a beat but I had a lovely cold day watching him like a hell. The vet said they could do anything as it was discovered in morning and could have been any time that he ate it. Keep an eye.
 
wait and see, my resident escape artist broke into my feed room and stuffed himself, besides refusing his dinner he was fine, although I was up all night checking him on the hour, just keep checking, luckily my lad was fine, I was a wreck
 
At a previous yard we had a horse that broke into the feedroom overnight and managed to stuff his face with most of the yard's other horses food, including almost a full bag of sugar beet, half a bag of oats, every treat that was available for him to get at, a bag of apples and a sack of carrots - and the yard owners daughter's very expensive bag of competition feed. He was right as rain, not one ounce of illness, though I think his owner had an awful lot of mucking out to do for the next couple of days :)

This is so dangerous, as my mare found out the hard way, she got the lid off the barley rings and made her situation 10 times worse in result I lost her.

I knew one that got into feed room and ate sugar beet and emergency surgery to remove the partially swollen beet. Luckily the horse survived but it was touch and go for a while.
Now I have a sign on the feedroom door

gorging food can result in a laminitis attack my vet was more concerned about that than colic luckily he escaped without any ill effects. He made his way through several bags of feed. Cost me a fortune to replace everyones stuff
 
Happens quite often at mine - we have a couple of 'escapees' - and bins around the yard with a few days supply for horses on that block. Fortunately it's only a mix of Grazon and non-heating coarse mix and have never had more than a day of watching a stuffed horse anxiously.
 
Are you joking??? Or do you have crazy intelligent horses who can read and understand signs?!
He broke in and opened the door himself at some point in the day. All good though.
 
I used to ride my friends Welsh Sec C. He had form for escaping & for raiding feed rooms so his stable was double bolted. When she moved yards the boxes came with a tack / feed room off the stable. Unfortunately her door didn't always click closed properly & the fat ginger ALWAYS knew! He'd wait until you left the stable and then mount a raid.

I pulled that flippin pony out by his tail more times than I can count. Plus he could remove the lids off the feed bins.

Given he'd had laminitis we got paranoid enough in the end to padlock the door against him.

Was that directed at my sign??? That is on the feed room door for all livery owners and trainers as before the feedroom door was left open during the day now it is closed.

Prevention is better than cure.
 
Closing the door wouldn't make any difference to mine, they'd barge through it.

OP glad to read all seems well, just keep an eye as others have said for colic and also lami from it.
