Ok my horse is 14.1 and what I want to know is whether or not you think I could get away with entering her in unaffiliated novice jumping classes when it states 14.2 or above?

Why would you want to? There are loads for those under 14.2. I think you should be honest, you know the height of your pony. Alternatively, if you are just after the experience and would like more classes to enter, then perhaps you could contact the show organiser and ask if you can go hc? Though bare in mind that the distances will prob be different and set up for horse strides.

Erm maybe I am extremely dim but I do not see classes for me to jump my pony in at all.

Maybe I should have said earlier but I am not under 16 by about 30 years sorry!

Ah right, that does make it trickier! No idea why show organisers don't realise that people older than 16 also have ponies! I would call the show organiser, perhaps they haven't even realised how many people they exclude with rules like that? Places round here often just have open classes of different heights, so anyone on any size horse can enter them. Perhaps put up a post with your location in to see if anyone in your area can recommend somewhere?

You should be able to find unaffilliated non height based classes.

It is true that you can't jump affilliated on a pony if you are over 16. Silly rule if you ask me - but there you are.

But unaffilliated should be OK. You just need to check with the show secretary. We regularly compete at unaffilliated shows against adults - on horses and on ponies. I would give you a list of venues to try but we live in Surrey so it won't help much!

Start with your local riding club shows - their classes should be mainly set for adults although many have juniors now. You can also try pony club - thier classes won't be height based for jumping - but most of the entrants will be kids.

Local riding schools may hold small unaffilliated events. Affilliated venues will hold unaffilliated events but are more likely to hold to affilliated rules so won't be as useful for you. I don't know if you have the free publications like Nag Rag or Pegasus but they often carry adverts for shows. Or try "Riding diary" online.

I suppose if push comes to shove you could take a chance and compete out of height. But at the end of the day it is cheating. Personally I wouldn't.

Thanks for that.

I just feel quite frustrated as I can only jump at a local place where people are really just practicing and other than that I am stuck. I know I could get a bigger horse but Bess is my forever horse and I really could not part with her.
