Yes this will sound stupid so only constructive replies please!

My pony has had laminitis this spring. I have moved to a new yard with a stable but my pony's paddock has a lot of grass init. I will be fencing some of it off tomorrow (Shes in her stable until I do!)

Im going to fence around the gate and the strip by the original fence as its quite bare.

My stupid question is, is there anyway of getting rid of the grass other than having it eaten down?

Thanks

Well - you could have it stripped off (there is a mchine that you can hire that will do this) but then you will be left with a mud paddock and the yard owner wouldn't want that so I'm not quite sure what you mean.

The only way to get it down is to have it cut or eaten but even then your horse will still be eating what comes through and even that is enough to have some hold their weight/gain weight/get lami.......

Not sure what else to suggest - muzzle? turn out in school with soaked hay? Do you have a concrete turn out area?

Have it topped and be patient or ask the YO to put some other horses in there to eat the grass down.

She has a muzzle but can get it off.

See I told you it was a stupid question that I know there is no answer too!

BUT you never know! Someone could say, well if you just... :p

Can you not strip graze it very slowly bit by bit? My old pony was laminitic but we managed by gradually moving her small pen of electric fencing around the field so that the field was grazed but she didn't get too much grass at once. We'd move the fence every day allowing her approximately a few feet of extra grass each time. It worked fine for us and she was a very sensitive Welsh A.
